kathy,
i am so sorry to hear your story.
Sounds very similar to my own.
I was on yasmin and developed a pulmonary embolism.
Fortunately it was treated and i am now ok. The doctors and nurses also had the same words of advice for me. It is just a pity that my own gp didnt have the same opinion. I had a special test done afterwards to determine if my blood was suceptible to clotting and it was negative. I can only assume it was the yasmin that caused it.
I feel sorry for the women who have yet to experience the side effects this pill can cause.
good luck

I suddenly started feeling very anxious last November and had panic attacks on a holiday flight which were absolutely terrifying. My husband is a doctor and can confirm that I went through an awful time. I thought it was some kind of claustrophobia on the plane although I fly on business all the time so it was extremely odd. When we got back I continued to feel anxious which is completely out of character for me and it made my life a misery. In early December as I thought I was recovering I suddenly dipped again and then I noticed I seemed worse every four weeks and in particular my pill free week which is what led me to question Yasmin which I had been taking since Late September. I surfed the net and have found hundreds of listings of women with similar problems which had made me believe that yasmin was the cause of my problems. I stopped taking it and about four weeks later felt anxious again although not in the same league as previously - I looked at my calendar and realised it would have been the same pill free week if I were still taking Yasmin. I am feeling much better now although not quite perfect and I am hopeful I will be back to normal soon. I reported my symptoms to the MHRA. My GP definitely thinks it is too coincidental not to be Yasmin. I would not wish this experience on anyone.

I too have had a terrible time with yasmin. My problems did not go away when i stopped taking it though.
I have experienced anxiety, vitamin deficiencies, low hormone levels and extreme pms after coming off yasmin. I never suffered from those things prior to yasmin.
I really believe this pill needs to be taken off the market.
How many women must suffer or die before this happens.

HI, I wanted to share my yasmin experiance as well, I was prescribed yasmin for my mild acne and To balance my hormones (PCOS) I am 27 years old and was healthy. excercized regularly ate healthy. Yasmin gave me severe panic anxiety attacks and phobias that i never had before, it made me panicy to go to the gym ect... IRRATIONAL FEARS. THEN CAME DEPRESSION. I was on yasmin for 3 years and the attacks got worse and worse, doctors prescribed me paxil and zanax never questioning my bcp yasmin. nothing helped. finally i relized that it all started when i got on yasmin. so I stopped yasmin and am better. also yasmin gave me heart palpatations and irregular heart beat. this pill is so scary. it is horrible I think they should remove it from the u.s. and everywhere else. If you are experiancing any of these symptoms please get off this pill.

hi guest,

your story is so similar to mine.

i first started yasmin to help wih mild acne and because it was advertised as a new wonder pill.

i suffered from awful anxiety, depression, heart palpitations, paranoia and develped a b12 deficiency while on it.

I think more women are starting to realise that yasmin is auing a lot of their problems.

i wish this pill was withdrawn from the market to have further research done on it before it ruins more lives.

Last night I laid in bed with tears in my eyes wondering when i became such a moody sad person and why. I'd never taken BC in my life until last year at the age of 28. I met and fell in love with some one who I was sure was the one and we decided I should start taking a pill. Yasmin seemed like the best option. shortly after, he noticed that I was closed off and moody. We worked things out and went on until last week. He said he just couldn't take my tears and emotions and how I always seemed to be negative and depressed. I insisted that that's not me, I've never been that kind of person before and though I've always been a soft heart... never irrational with emotional outburst. Then last night it hit me. It all started when I began taking the Yasmin. So please please please, if you're taking it and you or others are concerned, try something new, it's too late for me to fix what I lost... but it may not be for you!

I've only been on Yasmin for 5 weeks previously was using condoms for contraception. After losing about 6 kilograms through a big diet/exercise plan I didn't want a pill which was going to make me gain weight so the doc prescribed Yasmin. Almost from the first day I experienced a drop in my mood - I felt a little bit "numb". My sex drive almost completely disappeared overnight. I have been reacting to small things in my relationship and it's causing big fights with my partner. My mood is unpredictable, I have been feeling really tired when I get in from work & sometimes I wake up feeling so numb and depressed. I'vehad a dull headache almost since day one and last night woke up with excruciating cramp-like pains in my left leg. I have phoned my doctor today and will be discussing how to get off this pill immediately and onto another one.

I was previously using condoms for contraception and have recently gone on to use Yasmin Birth Control Pill. Almost since day one, I have experienced a huge drop in sex drive, increased tiredness and lack of energy, horrible irrational thoughts / mood swings which I cannot seem to control, and a mild (dull) headache which persists every day. My main problem with Yasmin is the effect it has on my emotional outlook - I feel very upset / vague / fuzzy most of the time.
I would like to know if there are other pills which are better. The one positive side effect of Yasmin is no weight gain - so I don't want one which is going to make me gain weight. Any ideas would be great, as I don't think I can stay on yasmin for much longer.

hi goneshoeshopping,
i have had terrible problems due to yasmin.
In my opinion i would not recommend any pill to anybody.
They all do basically the same thing.
Interfere wih your own natural hormones, and thats not good.
why not try a non-hormonal form of contraception, like the copper coil or naprotechnology.
There is a forum called createforum dot com forward slash yasminsurvivors.
On this site you can share your experiences with other women who have taken yasmin. They are a great bunch who will try to help you as much as possible. I am not allowed to post links so do the research and find the site.
Best of luck to you

My sister started the pill 2.5 months ago. 2 weeks ago she had tingling up one arm and almost stopped breathing then went onto complete seizures. went to the hospital had another seizure (they took a CAT scan saw nothing) sent her home then she had a 15 minute seizure taken to another hosptial. Was there 6 days EGG (no sign of epilipsy). no other test -its all in "her head" stress. BS I think is was the BCP, she stopped that day. Almost stopped breathing Friday but it all happen again tonite. couldnt breath passed out, siezed for 1 min went to hospital. Overheard the EMT talking with nurse possible TIA(mini stroke blood clot). What the hell??

How long does it take to get this BCP out ones sys? Where do these doctors get their licenses from?

I was on Yasmin for two years. I thought it was great for the first couple months. It gave me shorter periods and was great for cramps. After year one, I began feeling depressed and would cry all the time. I was not trusting and became very suspecious of my significant other for NO reason. I had a pain in my left lower abdomen that was consistently there and worsened during sex. I didn't gain weight, but I wasn't losing despite working out. I woke up every night to go to the bathroom, even if I didn't have anything to drink. Recently my SO asked me if maybe the pill was causing these problems. we changed daily activities, diets, etc....before going off the pill. I did some research on Yasmin and found many women with the same problem. I have been off Yasmin for a couple weeks and I feel great!

Hi gals,

Me too! I've been on Yasmin for three years. And in the past year, I developed heart palpitations (slow flutterging), panicky anxiety and occassional headaches.

I'm planning to go off Yasmin. Contemplated going without birth control entirely, but wondering if eventually I'll want to get back on a pill.

Not sure if this is a healthy way to do it. Does anyone have any experience here? If you went from Yasmin to another pill, which pill?

I'm so grateful to have seen these posts about heart palps and Yasmin, they resonated with me so much, just knowing I'm not alone in these feelings is so helpful.

I am so glad to have found this forum, it is a godsend. I have been feeling extremely moody and depressed for the last few months...I started on Yasmin about 4 months ago. I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms...crying for no reason, severe depression, hopelessness, fear to go into work, self criticism, and I've been attacking my boyfriend over nothing...I thank the good Lord that he has been so understanding and has seen me through it...I did not take Yasmin yesterday, but I feel better this morning. This may be just because I know that I have finally found my problem. Also, this pill has made me put on 4 or 5 pounds that I've been trying to lose for the last 4 months, killing myself in the gym 6 times a week, exercising more than any human being should have to unless they are a professional athlete. All this and I can not budge a pound. This has also led to great frustration. It's well worth using condoms to not suffer through this c**p any longer.
