Depression and OCD run on both sides of my family, so when I began experiencing symptoms of each I thought nothing of it. I have been on Yasmin since I was 16 and now I am 22 years old, but I am just beginning to feel the negative effects of Yasmin. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for quite some time now and I have tried almost every anti-depressant out there. They would work for about a week and then they seemed to make my depression worse. I didn't know about all of these women experiencing depression symptoms, and I am very thankful that my mom found these testimonials online. I am in my last year of college and the stress of that is enough to make me feel insane. I literally thought I was losing my mind and I have been crying more than I do anything. I also begin to feel very anxious and my chest gets tight without any oustide stimulants. I can't recall the last time I felt happy, but my life is not bad. I have had suicidal thoughts even though I have a wonderful family, boyfriend, and dogs. Thank you, everyone who shared their experiences. I am crying tears of joy right now because for once in years it seems like there is hope. Today is April 16th, and I am going to quit taking Yasmin today and will post an update the moment I feel a change in my state-of-mind.

I was prescribed Yasmin and I was very excited to start it... Untill I found this site! Is it that bad? I mean, Im a little under weight, so I dont mind the weight gain. But Im also pretty depressed now (not on the pill) and I think it might be because of my weight, lol... So hopefully the pill will give me opposite effects than it did most of yall... Cuz im tired of being depressed, that is the last thing that i need more of.

I took Yasmin for 2 1/2 weeks. On the second day I had moderate nausea. By the third or fourth day I was awakening during the night, unable to fall back to sleep. By the second week I was awakening with panic/anxiety, and felt very depressed. I stopped caring about things and started having thoughts about life being not worth the trouble. I just wanted to sleep as much as possible. I stopped working out...I just didn't care!
I tried to finish the pack of pills but just couldn't make myself take another pill yesterday. I won't take them again.
How long until one feels better after stopping Yasmin? Considering I was only on it for a short time? When should I expect my period? A few days after discontinuing the pills?
Thanks so much to everyone who shared their experience..makes me feel better that I'm not going crazy!
Nancy
P.S. I am 41 years old and was prescribed the Yasmin for cramps, not birth control.

I have been on Yasmin since I was 17. I also have a slightly suppressed sex drive, but that's nothing I can't get past. As for causing severe side effects like Kathy's, sure that can happen to people over 35. I'm not saying that older people shouldn't take it, but there are more risks than if a younger person were to take the drug. Please state your age when giving all these symptoms because most don't happen to younger people, and you're scaring some young people away from a really good contraceptive.

To guest in previous post (24 year old)
I am a member of a forum where women much younger than you have posted about their problems with yasmin. These problems with certain birth control pills are not just related to a womans age. The mother of one woman aged just 17, posted on our forum about her daughters horrific side effects. So do not brush aside women's genuine complaints by attributing them to age. 20% of the women on our forum are younger than your stated age.
How do you know what problems you will have in a few years time after taking any birth control? Dismissing the women who have experienced these problems is very naive of you. Please note that it is a very common side effect of the pill, especially this particular one, to have a suppressed sex drive, and research shows that it does not always return after stopping. It is not normal to have a suppressed sex drive at 24. Something is causing it!!!!!!

I've been using Yasmin since January due to the problems I had with Dianatte . Acording to my gyno, these are the only 2 pills that are useful for polycystic ovaries. Since taking it I have had severe weight gain (over 3 stone in 4 months and I am now covered in stretchmarks that embarras me so much I can't show any flesh on my legs, stomach and arms..meaning summer isnt going to be very comfortable!) and I've been suffering from mild depression. I've been suffering with thrush since starting the pills and I have begun having panic attacks and on my birthday last week I had two massive ones in the day, putting stop to any plans I had to celebrate. I'm 20. I have had tests done at the hospital to see if the pills are the reason for this, but the results aren't back for 7 weeks and I don't think I can wait that long! My gyno won't let me stop the pill either.

Hi to the previous guest who has just changed from Dianette to Yasmin. Please listen to the signals your body is giving you. It is your body and no gynae has the right to tell you not to stop taking any pill. You shouldn't have to be suffering like this. The results that come back from the tests will most likely not show any blame on Yasmin. So many women have had these same problems as you are having. Thrush, depression, panic attacks and weight gain are all side effects of yasmin. Please google Naprotechnology. This is a form of womens medicine that treats conditions like polycystic ovaries without the use of the pill. The pill is treating the symptoms not the cause. You should be able to find a doctor in your area who specialises in Naprotechnology. Do consider stopping the yasmin if you continue to have these problems.

I took Yaz for about a year and had terrible anxiety/panic attacks. I have suffered from depression in the past and I believe that this pill brought on a full-blown depressive episode. Now, almost a year later, I am attemping to go off Zoloft. I have gained about 20 pounds and feel crappy still from the antidepressants. This pill SUCKS. Don't take it.

Im so glad I have found this forum, for the last few months my mood and feelings have changed so much. I now look back and realise it all started when I took Yasmin bc for the first time. I have been have the most horrible anxiety attacks, cant stops thinking about horrible things, worrying that the love of my life whom I have been with for the last 7 years wasnt really the one for me. I was so worried and stressed about it I almost left him. The symptoms are now wearing off and gladly Im starting to think straight. I was so irrational, crying all the time for no reason, I had terrible ibs. I thought I was going insane. Even when I was worrying it may be the pill doing this to me I would then worry it wasnt and that it was my life just simply falling apart! Fingers crossed my life will return to normal and I can just forget about the horrible time on this horrible pill!!

I'm 16 and have been on Microgynon 30 for a few months. I then had random spotting and then i went to the doctor and they suggested Yasmin. I've been on it for 3 weeks and i feel VERY depressed and have been so snappy with my sisters. Another side effect has been that no matter how much i drink, i can't get drunk - all i get is heart burn, tummy aches and feel sick when i drink. I'm going to the doctor again in a week and i hope to get off this aweful pill which is making my life horrible.

Wow, this is really horrible. I'm on Yasmin right now and have been suffering from depression and anxiety and it's just getting worse. I've been on it since 2006 and I've always had a bit of an anxious personality but this is ridiculous. I checked into the possibility of hypothyroidism, but my blood tests came back normal for that and everything else. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to see if there's anything I can do. I hope this turns out okay and I can get off it asap!

:'( Hi Thanks so much for posting your comments on this forum. It helped me enormously. I have been on Yasmin for 2 weeks now and am starting to feel emotional, insecure and getting to point where i cant focus at work. This mood change seems to be the strongest in the morning which is when i have been taking the pill. I am considering taking it at night.....to see if the time in the day helps. I was prescribed Yasmin because i complained of experiencing depression after using another brand years back and the Gyn advised that Yasmin would be better because of the lower levels of Progesterone.
Today was a bad day.....from what i have read on this forum, maybe i should stop all together. The last thing i need in my busy life is another bout of depression.......
