I'm 17 and I started taking Yaz much earlier this year, for a couple months. I didn't know everyone else had these side-effects too. Luckily, I attributed te side-effects to Yaz very early on and switched after the first couple months. Currently, I am on LoestrinFe which I am in love with, seriously.

I think the side effects which bothered me the most about Yaz were the weight gain, constant stomache aches and headaches, and the mood swings. I felt like I was going crazy, constantly happy and then sad. I would cry over the most unreasonable things and it didn't make any sense. I had a migraine everyday, around the same time, and it drove me mad. Even after I got off the pill it took me a couple months for them to stop entirely. Also, I had absolutely no sexual appetite which is weird for me. I gained about 10 pounds and while my boobs immediately got bigger (which I was actually pretty happy about) so did my stomache. I was constantly bloated and no amount of exercise could help me. My periods actually lasted longer because they were so light and I ended up spotting for an entire week or more.

I wouldn't reccomend Yaz to anyone.

Hi,
It's been really interesting reading all these posts about Yaz.
I'm a 26 year old non SA woman who has a lot of problems with bc in the past. I tried Ortho Tri Cyclen low a few years ago and it made me a wreak. I mostly take birth control to regulate my hormones and to not have such bad periods.
I was diagnosed with PMDD a year or two ago even though I have had the symptoms for a long time.
I'm extremely sensitive to hormones (I could tell you exactly where I am in my cycle at any point due to how I'm feeling.) and the lowest dose usually works the best for me.

I have been on Yaz for over a year almost. I didn't do any research, but just wanted to test it out to see if it would work for me, I got a few free samples.
I love it.
I've never felt this confident in my life, my moods are for the most part balanced. I'm like a completely new woman.
I've not felt any other changes (Breast size change, sexual drive, etc)
The migraines I used to get with my periods are gone.
The massive chocolate cravings I used to get before my periods are gone!
I still get a few, now and again, but no more junk food raids, which is a good thing!
My skin is happy, and acne free. :-) (Though any bc will do that)

The only really annoying side effect is that I have to use the bathroom a lot to urinate, but it makes sense because Yaz has a diuretic in it. It's probably good for me anyways since I'm a bit overweight.
People say I look thinner too, which is nice.
I also don't like the cost. I might have to get off them because I simply can't afford it, but I don't want to.
I have no insurance so it kind of sucks.

I'm sorry to hear that so many people are having problems with this birth control. But as I read I wonder if this really shouldn't be taken for anyone who hasn't been diagnosed with PMDD? I know every women's body is different.

I'd be lost if they took this off the market.

My two cents?
a)If you have mild pms, or just taking bc to have lighter periods, or even for contraception, don't take this pill. I can see through all these posts that this will make your system go completely wonky.

b) If you have tried everything else, have been diagnosed with PMDD or have major mood swings with your cycles then give this a try. It's been my own personal salvation.

Finally:
It might not work, it may work.. For me it did, but I'm just glad that there are lots of options for women like myself. In short, do your research, and know your own body.

Thanks for your time! :-)

I am a 35 year old woman; healthy, nonsmoker, ideal weight. I've been on Yaz or Yasmine for about 7 years now. No problems. It clears my skin and gives me light periods. Wish it could work for everyone like it works for me. My best to you all.

It's been almost a year that I stopped taking Yaz because of the side affects. The most horrific one for me was severe hair loss. I was 45 years old when it was prescribed for me. I'm now about to turn 47 and I had to have aged 10 years in the last year and 1/2. I had beautiful thick hair and great skin before starting Yaz. I had been on orthotrycyclen before with no problems.

After a year of rogaine and all kinds of treatments to restore my hair and skin, I've come back slightly but cosmetically will never be the same. My facial skin lost all of it's luster and underlying fat, so I look drawn, tired and lined. My hair began to grow back but it came in thinner, fly away, and gray. I now have to use rogaine for the rest of my life in fear that it will fall out again. I have been unable to gain back any of the 15 pounds I lost, and I was already slender and did not need to lose weight. People used to tell me I looked many years younger than my age my entire life. Now it's clear I'm approaching 50.

I was on Yaz for a year before I realized it was the cause of all this. The damage is done, and I would caution anyone to begin using it. I thought because of the ads, it was just another birth control pill. But it's for people with acne. I didn't have acne, and it completely dried out my skin, permanently. It caused my hair to thin and fall out, and severe uncontrollable weight loss. My nails don't grow anymore. I would be seeking legal action, but I am now caught up in a divorce. After more than a year of emotional problems I never experienced before, my husband of 18 years left me and my kids. I tried to show him this site to help explain, but it was already too late. Whoever marketed this drug should go to jail in my opinion. I have yet to find any other drug with this much horrific feedback on any site.

I'm so sorry everyone is having all these bad experiences with Yaz. I recommend everyone to stop taking it and with anyone wants to take legal action I have a friend lawyer that might be able to help you out. Just let me know and i can put you contact with him.

We only have one body and we need to take care of it.

HOW DARE YOU WRITE THIS. AFTER BEING ON BIRTH CONTROL FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS, I WAS SWITCHED TO YAZ. AFTER UNCONTROLLABLE WEIGHT LOSS, I CONTRACTED A KIDNEY INFECTION, AND MY HAIR FELL OUT. I WAS A HEALTHY, GORGEOUS WOMAN WITH A GREAT LIFE. NOW I AM A RECLUSE, SPENDING MY TIME OBSESSED ABOUT HOW TO GET MY HAIR TO GROW AGAIN. I'VE BEEN OFF YAZ FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS, AND STILL DEALING WITH THESE SHOCKING, UNEXPECTED EFFECTS. I TAKE EXCEPTION TO YOUR POST - IT'S INSENSITIVE AND YOU ARE CLUELESS. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY SITE WITH TONS OF INFORMATION ABOUT FEMALES WHO FELL VICTIM TO THIS POISON CALLED YAZ. IF I HAD ONE WISH, IT WOULD BE TO REWIND THE CLOCK TO 2008, AND I WOULD BURN THOSE YAZ BOXES AND WARN WOMEN EVERYWHERE.

Ok so I have gone through 3 different threads about YAZ because so many women are having a problem with it. There are hundreds of posts about this topic. And I feel so sorry for all of you who are having all of these problems with YAZ. I am 21 and I have been on YAZ since I was 19 bc my gyno recommended it to me. And I have got to say that I love it. I have been on it for over 2 years and what it has done for me is clear up my acne, get rid of cramps and bloating (and i had severe cramping before), it regulated my period (my period was so irregular that I never knew when it was coming, it would come maybe every 2 months, or maybe every 3 months, i never knew) and when my period did come it was SUPER heavy. Now with YAZ i have a shorter, lighter period, I know exactly when its coming and for how long. I still get PMS right before my period, but thats normal and YAZ doesnt treat that. Luckly for me my insurance is now covering it because before I paid $40 a month, but now I only pay $20 a month. I guess YAZ is not for everyone.

I started YAZ back in October for the first time in my life. I have 2 endometriosis cysts - My doctor prescribed me to take YAZ constantly without any pause for about 6 months in order to temporarily interrupt the menstrual cycle and see if the cysts get smaller. YAZ was fine for the first two months...I am now starting my third pack and .... I have bleeding for the past one week. Every single day - quite a lot. I called the doc and got suggested to continue this pack and then stop and start another pill that he will give me after one month of pause.
I am soooo concerned! Is this bleeding (light blood like for ex. 2nd, 3rd day of regular menstrual period) normal? Can it be dangerous to my body? I am like thinking to stop it now or in a few days. It is so frustrating. I can't understand why I bleed if I interrupted the cycle!?!?

Please...Any suggestions? advise? opinions? Greatly appreciated, thanks!

My sister took Yaz and it caused her to have gall bladder disease. She had to have emergency surgery because before Yaz, her gallbladder wa fine. After Yaz, she had numerous gall stones. After she quit taking it, she had changed in personality. She was very hateful, snappy, and she and I, who had been extremely close, had a ridiculous argument. I apologized for my part, but she has totally refused to accept my apology. We arw going on 3 years of not speaking. I have apologized two more times. She just makes a smart comment and walks away. She has even started very mean and untrue rumors about me and my family. It's like she is a possessed person.
She.looks the same on the outside, but her eyes tell a different story. She is a very angry person. Could YAZ be responsible for this three years after stopping it? Help! I am not using my real mail address in fear that she will read this and "go off" on me again.

I have to pipe in here with some positives. I was a former IUD user. Had my IUD changed, and within weeks was swelling up like a baseball on my cheek, chronic fatigue, neurological symptoms (numbness, tingling, cramping, electric sensations, and large twitches in my arms) my face would swell like a chipmunk every month. I was constantly tired and aching. Took the IUD out immediately and went to doctors for years trying to figure it out. Went on a ridiculous dose of daily antihistamines, which had terrible side effects. One dr visit they found ovarian cysts and recommended I try BC. Tried marvelon and it helped so much. I came off antihistamines and had energy, pain was reduced, on my week off symptoms returned so I went on continuous bc. Marvelon made me gain 30lbs and stopped working as well after a year or so as my symptoms creeped back. I've tried a few different ones and settled on Yaz bc I don't get the debilitating symptoms, the water weight I gained on others dropped off, my mood is stable and generally good, and I have energy to do life. BC but mostly Yaz really saved my life. I've been on it for over a year now, tried to stop and was sick like before until a week after going back on it. I'm not discounting the bad experience but need to input my good experience because it really can help some ppl. I hesitated to do BC because of all these ppl saying it's poison and naturopaths toting diet. I tried all their bogus diets and cleanses and hormonal balancing hooey. Didn't do anything but stress me out and make me worse off. Had I tried this BC earlier I could get back a few years of my life. Drs went through ridiculous amounts school and training to save ppl, although they don't always have the right answer and not everything works for everyone, they certainly aren't trying to poison us. They know a heck of a lot more than the internet wellness snake oil salesmen.
