Hi! Weird and at the same time good thing happened to me and I would gladly share my experience with you. Three weeks after going off Paxil, my appetite went back to normal and I lost pounds I gained while taking this medicine. I suppose I was lucky! Or maybe it’s just the way it goes!!! I don’t have any explanation!

| Regarding Cipralex and weight gain - I have been on Cipralex for a year. Anxiety-wise it's been wonderful, but I have gained 10 kg. Would really like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what their GP's suggested they do about it. Not prepared to come off Cipralex as it's been a life saver! |

| I was on paxil and gained 10kg. I then switched to prozac to see if that would be better. I did lose about half, just starting out, but weight has gone up again. Now I'm thinking its the Mirena, but i've had it out for 2 months and still the same! very despondent. |

weight gains is almost always caused by a combination of the Poor diet(high in calories and simple carbohydrates) and inactivity. Side deffects of pharmaceutical medications(e.g., antidepressants) also the factors taking into account.
If possible, get regular moderate exercise. Walking and similar activies are good. Moderate exercise helps in the assimilation of nutrients and in increasing the appetite. Avoid strenuous exercise.
Your best bet for health and weight loss is to focus on eating foods that fresh, whole, and nutritionally dense. Make sure you get enough protein every day. Otherwise, you’ll feel deprived and downright hungry. Whole, complex carbohydrate, like brown rice, whole-grain bread, and oats are necessary for a healthful eating plan. They’re also high in fiber, which helps you feel full and keeps you free of toxins. Essential fatty acids are good for you, use EFAs in moderation. Eat food that are high in tryptophan-turkey, chicken, tuna, soymilk and live unsweetened yogurt. This chemical encourages the production of serotonin and may stave off cravings. Vegetable juice is healthful and filling. Water also takes the edge off your hunger. Eat a balanced ratio of the major food groups. Eat more small, regular meals. Do not skip meals, particularly breakfast.
If you’re trying to lose weight, you first priority should be to reduce or, better to eliminate refined sugar from your diet. Avoid processed and junk food. Refined flours are leaving you with nothing but a plate full of calories. You must radically cut back on your consumption of “bad” fats.

Excess body weight is implicated as a risk factor for many different disorders, including heart disease, diabetes, several cancers (such as breast cancer in postmenopausal women, and cancers of the uterus, colon, and kidney), prostate enlargement (BPH), female infertility, uterine fibroids, and gallstones, as well as several disorders of pregnancy, including gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and gestational hypertension. The location of excess body fat may affect the amount of health risk associated with overweight. Increased abdominal fat, which can be estimated by waist size, may be especially hazardous to long-term health.
Dr Balch's nutritional team has created a formula designed to work alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise. Components have been added to promote fat burning processes. Protection and supplemental nutrition is provided with botanicals and a complete multivitamin complex. The amino acid L-Carnitine may be helpful for weight loss because of its role in fat metabolism. Studies have shown that Conjugated Linoleic Acid reduces the percentage of body fat in exercising people although other studies have shown no effects. Cayenne increases blood circulation and promotes secretion. Supplementation with Calcium aids weight loss in overweight people consuming a low-calorie diet in 3 to 6 months. Green Tea Extract may support a weight-loss program by increasing energy expenditure or by inhibiting the digestion of fat in the intestine. A Complete Multivitamin Mix provides basic support to the body with most essential nutrients even when you are on a very low calorie diet. L-Glutamine promotes the synthesis of glutathione, an important antioxidant in the body which protects the body during the weight loss process.
Dr. Balch works with "Unauthorized Ad" to provide custom-made natural remedies for anyone who wants an all-in-one daily supplement that addresses all their health concerns, as well as providing the vitamins and minerals needed for optimum health and wellness.

Posted: 01/23/07 - 14:50 Post subject: Lexapro and weight gain |
|
|
| I was on Lexapro for about 6 months and it did absolute wonders for my depression and anxiety. However, I had just sustained about a 20 lb. weight loss from weight watchers, and over the 6 months I gained 20 + another 10. I continued to count points and workout. I did crave more sugar & carbs. So, I decided to go off of Lexapro, and tried welbutrin which made my head swim, and I couldn't remember ANYTHING. After 2 years I have still not been able to lose the extra weight, despite weight watchers, running, working out regularly. Makers of Lexapro should be severly punished, and find a solution! |

|
|
Hi I've been on various anti depressants since I was 15. Now 33. I am currently on Prazac 60mg. I have found that it is harder to lose weight while on medication but I can do it if I follow weight watchers and exercise about 60 minutes 4 -5 times a week. It helps my depression too. I tried coming off pills after initially gaining weight but I just got ill again. I think it is better to be well than thin. However finding a healthy weight and making you're body toned through exercise makes you feel much better. I think I sometimes use the anti-depressants as an excuse for any time I've regained weight but in reality it is usually due to eating all the pies!!! because it comes off again when I try. |
