Hi,
Can you help me?
I am new to this. I have taken Lexapro for 2 years. I tried to come off it last year but only lasted a few weeks.
I have had anorexia in the past and I feel the lexapro is causing me to gain weight, which is worsening my anxiety. At first I lost weight when taking them, then i feel it has slowly crept up. I am at an ED clinic so I know I am not eating too much- apparently I still don't eat enough and I exercise quite a lot. I can run 5ks in under 24 minutes.
I started to taper down my dose a week and a half ago and in another 2 weeks I will be off the lexapro completely. My question is, if I make it this time, will the weight gain reverse once I am off the tablets? Can anyone offer any personal experience?

Do you think I will stop feeling so heavy and get my pre lex body back?

These doctors and pharmaceutical companies are in cahoots and their motive is big money! Psychiatrists can hook you in by peddling meds to you ensuring that you will visit them every month! They are just drug pushers with a license! And of course, pharmaceutical companies are no different than drug dealers, ignoring all the dangers many of these medications! Biofeedback, EMDR which can teach a depressed and anxious individual to cope with their issues are not covered by medical insurances,
YUP, another partner in crime!...Wake up people! Like sheep to slaughter we blindly accept our fate, NO! Refuse manipulation by these conglomerates! Long term use of these meds are harmful to our health but you won't know about it till it's too late! Vascular disease, dementia, increased visceral fat, etc. will be depressive issues you will have to live with if you take the easy way out! I know...been there...but not anymore!!! Good luck!!!

I was on Lexapro for about a year for severe anxiety and gained 20lbs. I have been off for a year now and cannot get rid of the 20lbs. I exercised and watch my diet, but the weight doesn't go away. I am really depressed about my weight and none of my clothes fit anymore. I feel like a blimp going from 134lbs to 154lbs . I think Lexapro should be banned-

Gained 20 lbs on lexapro. My psychiatrist said this definitely happens to some people. We are now switching me over to Effexor. Still a chance of weight gain she said, but less. Has anyone else had experience with Effexor?

I agree with you! I was on Lexapro for 18 months, gained 15 pounds...went off for 18 months and could not lose an ounce. Had to go back on a gained another 5 pounds immediately so weaned off again. I can't believe it ruins you so that you can never lose that weight. I am so disgusted.

I just came off of Prozac after a year and a half. I gained 30 pounds. I have been eating better, drinking less, drinking tons and tons of water and tea, walking daily, absolutely no budge in my weight. My depression is gone, but now I'm fat. I'm glad to have found this page.

I really wished my Dr had told me of the weight gain associated with Zoloft. I would have never taken it. Now I am stuck ( literally) with this weight . I don’t know if Dr.s are told not to inform patients but would really like to find out.sound

I feel taking Zoloft has created a medical issue for me in weight gain. Best to talk this issue with your Dr. before taking a antidepressant
