Last week I had my right thyroid removed due to a singular large cold nodule - scar is healing fine but I keep getting a really bad headache that seems to build as the day progresses, I have to lay down eventually and take paracetamol and then after an hour or two it passes. Could this be down to the anesthetic still in my body? I do not normally suffer from headaches, only usually the day I am due on - (not for another week yet) -
My neck feels stiff, but really not too bad, I feel like I have tension all the time and need to give my neck a good crack!

Hi Beaglestein,

The thing is that there are some side effects from the anesthesia. However it shouldn’t last for seven days. It usually is presented in first and second day after the surgery. This is one of the reasons why you stay in the hospital day or two after the procedure. If your wound is healing well then in my opinion you should be fine in few more days, and you headaches will stop. Stiff neck is normal and if it is not too painful you should just try to rest as much as you can. Do you drink coffee? If you had coffee on regular basis before the surgery and now you have stopped, you might be experiencing your headaches because of that.
