Hi! I am a 27 year old female with no health insurance due to my husbands recent job loss. I have been having some health issues and could use some advice since I can't just go to the doctor. I have been a vegetarian for 15 years and may lack protein and vitamins. My diet is seriously lacking, there are days that before going to bed I realize that I have hardly eaten all day. I also drink too much coffee ad almost no water. I had a child 5 months ago and another a little over 2 years ago. My body may still be readjusting and I am under alot of stress with my two demanding cherubs, from our financial situation, and other sources.
My digestive tract has slowed to a crawl; I should use activia because I am regular about once a week. When I wake up in the morning my entire body hurts, as if I had worked out with weights the night before for the first time in years. At first I explained it away as pulled muscles because of lifting my kids all day, bending over to clean up, and crawling around after them. But there is no reason that I should still feel this sore and stiff every morning. When I step out of bed I can barely move my ankles. It hurts to walk on my feet and my calf and thigh muscles burn. I loosen up a bit as the day goes by but the pain dosn't abate completely. Other common places to feel this pain: Wrists, shoulders, knees, and the muscles of my back, arms, shoulders, legs, and rib cage.
Another reason I do not feel this pain is necessaryily due to something I am doing during the day is it is there regarless of how active my day was. I can work out at night or do yoga and the pain is neither increased or alleviated. The pain in my feet, for instance, is on the tops of my feet often, not the bottom like it is the result of my feet bearing too much weight during the day. Right now the joints in my fingers have begun to ache from typing.
Please help, I am hoping this is just psychosomatic or a dietary problem. Set my mind at ease that its not something more serious...

Hi ericalyn,
You have a lot of general symptoms. I also know the stress that having a couple of kids will add to your life.
From your statement it does sound like you have some nutritional issues. You also need to drink more water, and less coffee. Going all day without eating much, especially as you are a vegetarian, is not healthy. You need to find time to eat and I don't mean to just toss food down your throat. You need time to rest and digest your food. A lot of muscle pain can be caused by low potassium. Do you like banana's? They may help. How often do you urinate? Is the color light or dark? You probably don't drink that much because you are busy with the kids. Drink! Keep yourself hydrated. Both the water and the banana's should also help you become more regular.
I'd also try to avoid the Activia.
What are you using for sources of protein and vitamins? How bad is your diet? You need to take time to allow yourself to recover from the delivery and it sounds like you don't have any rest.
To summarize, I do tend to think that you are deficient in nutrients and vitamins and also probably dehydrated.
Please keep us posted as to how you are doing. Good luck

You may have symptoms of fibromyalgia. Massage therapy is very helpful for this condition, and costs a lot less than a doctor's visit. You don't have to be malnourished because you are a vegetarian. Eat plenty of high quality plant proteins such as soy, and take multivitamin supplements. Stay away from coffee, soda and sugary foods, and try to eat right.

HI, ericalyn, You may overtaxing your adrenals with the caffeine, adrenals control all of your hormones, I had a similar experience after 3 close pregnancies that drained me of nutrients and energy. I used liquid potassium, progesterone cream and probiotics for the gut and doctor recommended R-Alpha Lipoic acid supplement to balance hormones and help with hypoglycemia.
