I usually eat 2 or 3 bananas a day. Yesterday I was out of bananas so I went without. The only thing I did differently in my training yesterday was doing deeper squats. My diet stayed the same is it always is during the week minus the bananas .

Why am I so sore today? My legs are killing me.

That's interesting....perhaps you have unusually high potassium requirements. Or maybe the squats were just deeper than you think.

Or....thinking about glycogen replenishing, maybe the bananas are a significant enough % of your sugar/carb intake that not having them meant it took longer to replenish the muscle glycogen? I know you're not the biggest eater on the planet.....

I've gone back on my regular 2-3 bananas/day schedule and that seems to have helped a lot.

Cool!! I bet that's what it was then. I just looked in my Medical Physiology textbook, and found a long-winded explanation of the process of oxygen debt, depletion of muscle glycogen and lactic acid buildup and removal, which all simplifies down to: eat your bananas!

maybe its because as you said you did deeper squats. By pushing yourself and working harder on your muscles it causes them to stiffen. This is because your muscles get microscopic tears as you exercise. Then they will heal and become stronger.

I personally don't think the banana's had anything to do with it. Its just like when you were younger and did cross country for the first time, you stretch your muscles more than they are used to. And they become sore
