I am 4 yrs and 7 mnths into having the mirena., In Sept its due to be removed. I have had no problems and very light light periods, no cramping. In past two months things seem to be changing. i have had two cases of spotting just a day only in a few weeks span. Then 22 days late and finally when i actually start its a 8 day period...that hasnt happened since I had in incerted, within the 4th day it became heavier and cramping and bloating. Then not just 2 weeks later I started once again, and its heavier...not heavy like a normal period, but heavy for me. In past would be 2 to 3 days of spotting no liners required only when i wipe is blood there but its a light pink. Now it is ur bright red, and I need liners. I am growing concerned as to is it signs that its wearing out. Is it still working? Does anyone know when it actually stops working and what are the signs. i have had no luck on the internet. I just moved across country and havnt inquired a new gyn. Its still in place that I know. Makes me wonder..

I have had Mirena going on 4 1/2 years now. No real problems other than mild pain during intercourse. No bleeding whatsoever since insertion. My gyno however never til me anything about checking the placement of it. A coworker just mentioned that to me last week! Anyways ... Other than those things no problems .... Until this morning. I'm bleeding like my body is making up for the last 4 years. It's bright red. No clots. No pain really. HELP!!! I just moved with a new job insurance doesn't start for a few weeks I have no idea if I should freak out or not!!

Hi, my Mirena is due for removal next year and I haven't had many problems with it but lately I've had very painful cramps. My periods started earlier than what they were suppose to and they stopped earlier as well so I wasn't thinking much of it as I know stress can do this. A couple of days later discharge started and continued for about a week and a bit and last night bleeding starting again with big clots in it. First off I got the merina at a way to young age, I was 16 and normally it's for women that have had children already... I haven't. I have no idea what's going on, it's quite painful and very uncomfortable. The most common explanations I've come across for this is that the Merina probably shifted and is hurting my organ. Could any one back me up on this?

Hi, i have just been reading all comments about the mirena coil. I had mine fitted feb 08 and for about 3 months there was light spotting. I then had no problems with it which i thought was great. Had my regular smear test which came back abnormal, so had to have an examination . Had another smear test which thank god came back ok. Then last year my smear test, the nurse could not find the coil. I was sent to the hospital for an ultrasound to find it, which they did. Since then ive had spotting every month. My weight has increased where as when i had the coil fitted i lost weight. Explain that. Thought this was going to be an easy contraception, after being on the pill for years.

I have had the merina placed nov 2008 before I was on the depo shot which I did not have a period thus when the IUD replaced my other BCmethod I still had no periods or any kind of spotting. However, nearly 4 years in I go to the restroom and wipe :) and what do you know there is PINK on the TP..it was not red or any kind of clotting but just pink, its obviously blood but very light. I go to re wipe and again it's pink..? It was just about the time I was going to bed so I figured well I guess this would have been a period, although I've never  had any kind of bleeding. The next morning I check again and there's the pink! Ugh! It has been about two days. I've read it could be your body's hormones are 1) changing 2) the IUD has shifted idk I made an apt ith a OB but I am concerned only because I have never had any kind of bleeding the whole time but 4 years in?? Has anyone had this experience? No bleeding but then out of no where bleeding. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I am really scared that I may be pregnant with Mirena in place. I got it put in 4 years ago after my Daughter was born and I never had to worry about being pregnant on it because my boyfriend of 3 years was fixed. Recently I started dating somone that isn't fixed and I started having pregnancy symptoms but just thought I was going crazy and thought they went away but the whole time I have been on Mirena I haven't bled until earlier today I went to the bathroom and blood came out. I immediatley called my doctor but she wasn't worried because I didn't have anymore blood besides what fell into the toilet. I took a home pregnancy test and got a very faint negative line. We slept together on September 1st could I be pregnant or did I miscarry? Please help :(

I was wondering if you have found anything out yet.

I had my mirena in since aug 08 after the birth of my daughter. I didn't have any bleeding or spotting until I hit my three to three and a half year mark when i started spotting. nothing major that required anythin more than a panty liner. In aug I had sex without a condom and then one month later I woke up to bright red blood and small clots. The bleeding wasn't extremely heavy, but it was Definately way more than I have had in four years. I took two pregnancy test over the two weeks after we had sex that were both negative but still don't know what's going on

HAD THE MARINA COIL FITTED OVER 5 YEARS AGO TO CONTROL FLOODING DURING PERIODS. FOR THE FIRST 5 YEARS, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, PERIODS STOPPED.
HAD IT REPLACED 4 MONTHS AGO AS SCHEDULED. THE PAST 2 MONTHS I'VE HAD A HEAVY PERIOD. STOPPED LAST MONDAY, BUT FRIDAY NIGHT STARTED FLOODING HEAVILY AGAIN AND NEARLY PAST OUT. PHONED NHS DIRECT WHO GOT THE EMERGENCY DOCTORS TO PHONE ME BACK. THEY TOLD ME TO COME UP AND SEE THEM. I WAS EXAMINED, AND WAS TOLD THE COIL WAS STILL IN PLACE. WAS PRESCRIBED MEDICATION TO STOP THE BLEEDING. IT'S STARTED TO SLOW DOWN NOW, BUT STILL WAITING FOR THE GYNI DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL HOSPITAL TO GET BACK TO ME.
JUST FEEL REALLY DRAINED ALL THE TIME. ANY IDEAS?

my bleeding was due to menopause, i had bleeding for 6 weeks very heavy, my gyn did biopsy which came back no cancer, had a hysteroscopy and a D/C and the mirena coil as my gyn said that it would protect my womb from cancer if left in place for 2 years, but since having it 10 weeks ago i have had bleeding for 7 weeks, i just dont know what to do now

Hi there wondered if anyone has any thing similar happened i had the mirena fitted in 2008 and its due to be changed this May - I have PCOS so never really had any periods my whole life (40 now) apart from odd few, always had fertility problem, whilst on the Mirena for nearly 5 years not had a single period until today - strange. I have noticed in the last few months pain in the groin and top of my legs ..

I had the mirena fitted in May 2011 I rarely had periods, maybe 1 every 6 months lasting about a day. In June this year I had a pain on my left side and had tests for cysts which came back negative as the cyst could have come away by the time I had my scan. Since then I have been having twinges and pains every month and periods which are heavy. I feel as though I could cry all the time and I have constant mood swings. I don't feel like I am such a fun and nice person to be around anymore. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms. I have had the mirena fitted before my last pregnancy and all was fine.
