Hello, I'm 18 and I'm not sure if I have a recurring yeast infection, or something else. I really hope it's not something really bad. =( This is all new to me, yes I have seen my doctor before about this. She said it sounds like a yeast infection and gave me a pill for it, however, she never told me I should also follow up with some creams. So I took the pill before my period. After it, I felt irritated still, so my mom and I picked up some anti-fungal creme to use over night. I took that and after 3 days I felt better. So I thought, and my mom said it might be okay, to stop using it, since I was feeling better. Well, now I'm not sure if that was a dumb move..

Today, to my acknowledge, I started feeling slightly itchy, again. Now to tell you, before, the itching was on and off. It would happen, but for a bit. Or happen then stop, then happen again. Also, that I had little to no vaginal discharge and no smell. I couldn't tell if anything was wrong. But today, was itchy and I look a little red on both inner and outer labia, a little bit ago, it was burning in an irritating way and now it's barely there. My discharge seems normal that I can tell, as well as I'm bloating and I'm not anywhere near my next period. My period ended about a half a week ago. I know its been 10 days or a little over.

I do play soccer, but I haven't lately. Our season hasn't started up just yet. I'm wondering if it could of been the pants I was wearing and the weather being a bit warm, yesterday. The pants were a little tight, but not bad. But it has been warm lately, so I don't know if it's just sweat or not. I think, I've covered up everything. Please, help me out. I can't contact my doctor until Monday and I rather have some one's opinion on this. Or if someone knows what I'm going through, to tell me I'm fine or to hurry to my doctor. My mom doesn't even know what to say. I've asked her questions and I get the I don't know, because she has never had a yeast infection or a problem until now. Odd, how we are both having problems. But, anyways, a little help?

Yeast infections can be quite resistant to treatment when they have the right conditions to thrive in (hot, humid conditions, sugary diet, oral contraceptive pill can all contribute). If the anti-fungal cream helped it probably is a yeast infection, but its important to know for sure. Then you can alter your diet and wear clothing to create the right conditions that will help fight the infection.

I'd head back to your doctor in the next week or two and ask for a swab (painless wipe with a cotton tip to reveal whether too much yeast is present) to be taken and sent to the lab for analysis. Then you'll know for sure.

Hope this helps, let us know how you go. :-)
