Only you can make sure that sex is safe, anytime. Sex before, during and after your period is physically okay.
You are in control of the safety part of it. Complete knowlede of safeguarding the experience is key.
Please be well informed of birth control. This includes the pill, a condom, a shot etc....what ever type of bc that you want.
It's not only the risk of an unwanted pregnancy that you have to worry about, but it's also the chance of getting some really nasty disease from a infected partner that did not wear a condom.

BBfeet9 has it covered,
By you and your partner being younger, the nasty disease part may not be the first thing to think of, but do... but the unwanted & unneeded pregnancy is formost the most important part to you and all other young persons, (even if you are married and still under 23) This is the hardest idea and concept to get across to everyone, babies just don't happen, that are from both of you!!! It is easy to stop this by being on birth control, always wearing a condom (females have them also) & knowing the other person. Take this to heart and pass it on to your friends to pass it on tho their friends, and it will slow down some.
The enjoyment both partners recieve is beyond words..... but to have the shock of her (or you) telling him that she is pregnate "deflates the relationship" & "Burst the bubble" then starts a new set of problems raising that child.
