My dermatologist gave me a prescription called Spironolactone (sp) to help with the hormonal acne that I had to stop taking because of y low blood pressure. Ask your doc about it. Also there is a prescription topical that takes longer called Aczone

Hi Everyone,
So from the age of 19+ I started getting HORRIBLE cystic acne. Like cysts so swollen they were purple mountains on my face. Then, I started Yazmin at age 21 and my skin completely cleared up in 2 Months!!!!!!!! It was amazing.
But now, (23), I'm wondering if I should stop taking Yazmin due to health risks and decreased libido! With your experience, do you think I'll go right back to having horrible cystic acne??
If you have any insight I would really appreciate it!

This was the first uplifting and helpful comment I've seen and I've read like four message boards. Stopped bc 5 months ago and my chest and back (which have always been clear) are an absolute wreck with small bumps and cystic acne. Everyone has been posting troubles, and most mention getting back on the pill- but I was seeing no updates to see if anyone's cleared up. Due to a blood clotting disorder (which was the reason I had to get off it-stoke risk) getting back on the pill is not an option (plus, I wanted to be natural for once). My boyfriend and I have been trying to look up to see what is normal or if we should be concerned and it's SO COMFORTING to see someone on the other side to say it gets better! Thank you so much!

Hey I don't usually comment on things like this, but I was reading and identified with nearly everyone, I was on Yasmin for about 6 years and my skin was literally flawless, literally not a mark on it, I only struggled with spots a little bit before going on the pill but nothing terrible, after being on the pill for so long I decided to stop taking Yasmin and about 2-4 months after I got the literal worst acne of my whole life, my cheeks where the area where it was really bad, as well as little dots on my back and shoulders; i have almost been off the pill for a year now and my skin has improved but I still would say that I suffer from acne, using Benzol Peroxide has helped a lot, it doesn't help to prevent break outs but it does help to clear them up when they appear, also a spot drying treatment is usefull too. I know my skin will get better and that it is going to take a while for it get better, all I can say is just try to stick it out, I was tempted so many times to go back on Yasmin, but I know fully well that if I do that I will simply have this problem in 4 years times all over again!

Hey,
I don't want to be doom and gloom however I think that you will struggle with breakouts again, I didn't have a problem with my skin before I took Yasmin, I was on Yasmin for over 4 years and when I stopped I really struggled with acne so badly, worse than ever! It has been a year and my skin has cleared but I do still struggle with acne. I have read a lot and seems to be a trend, I think your health should always be put first as it's most important but I just thought you'd like to know!

I was on yaz for three months and it gave me daily anxiety attacks and many other problems so i got off quickly. I've been off for about three months and my skin was fine until my first period, then it broke out like it hadn't in years which made me extremely upset because i've been vegan for awhile which made my severe acne i used to have almost instantly disappear. It's been three months and i feel oily everywhere all day, but my skin has already started to improve quite a bit in the past couple weeks. I use cetaphil to wash off all my oils (toner prior to makeup helps too!!) and a charcoal bar from lush (LIFE SAVER!) also... go vegan, dairy causes lots of breakouts. I had severe acne prior to stopping my dairy intake and my skin cleared 100% within two months. If you don't do it for the health, ethical, or enviromental reasons... at least do it for your skin. I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone but it worked for me and other people i know. hope this helps anyone:)

The best thing to do is prepare your body BEFORE coming off Yasmin. Being on the pill wreaks absolute havoc on your gut and depletes you of many vital nutrients required for healthy skin. Without going into too much detail, here are some top tips. I'd start doing this 3 months prior to coming off the pill so that you can heal your body and it will then be the strongest possible condition to fight off bad skin/hormone disruption:
Take probiotics (this is vital!) - make sure they are a high quality or they will do nothing.
Quit dairy
Quit refined sugar
Get enough sleep
Take the following vitamins: Zinc Picolinate, Magnesium (300mg 3 x per day), Vitamin B complex, Cod Liver Oil
You can also try Berberine or Agnus Castus if things get really bad!

I'm 31 and went on Yasmin for one year. Right before starting it, I had no cancer and was checked regularly during Pap smears. A year later, I had cervical cancer. Yasmin is no joke. It might give you beautiful skin but at what cost?

Hi! I also don't usually comment on these things, but girl, I really feel you! Im currently 25, I was on a few different pills over the course of 5 years. I decided to stop it because I started working and I did not have the time or the money to get a doctor prescription every 6 months, only to pay about $10 per pack per month! (I currently live in South Africa, things are a little different here). Anyways, my skin wasn't perfect but it was pretty good. As soon as I came off it (like 2 weeks) my skin got the absolute worse. I have never seen my skin like that my entire life. Even in my teens I never had skin so bad like that. It got so bad I considered getting on the pill again many times. But I read about it and it may take a while but it will get better too. I am currently on my 4th month off it and the skin gets a little better each time. Instead of having 4 big pimples every week I now only get 2. The main problem for me is the marks they leave on your skin. I still have scars from pimples I got in the very first month I came off it. And its not a scar because I touch it, its just a scar and it just stays there. Its awful! Anyway, there are ways to make it a little bit better. If you cant afford, or dont have time to get to a dermatologist, just follow these simple steps:
1. Check your skin type. If you are oily use products for oily skin (and so on..)
2. Wash your face AT LEAST twice a day. This is extremely important. Wash it most specially at night. Night time face wash is the most important thing in my regime. One of the things that really improved it was Neutrogena Night Cream - an absolute miracle! Wash your face, put some of that and you will see the dramatic difference the next day. I didn't believe it myself until I tried. (the product may seem expensive but it actually lasts you sooo long its absolutely worth it).
3. Change your pillow cases every 3-4 days. I know this may seem like a pain (trust me, it is because I just forget) but this is also a critical step. You have no idea the difference it makes on your skin. Back then I didnt even wash my face at night I would just go to bed, to a pillowcase full of disgusting germs and bacteria your skin attracts throughout the day. Imagine if you never change that pillowcase! No mater how many times you wash your face at night, as soon as you put your face on it, all that c**p is back on your face again.
4. Use face masks once a week. I use Japanese face masks that I get from eBay - also an absolute miracle, those people know how to get good skin, trust me.
5. I use two more products that are quite important - Neutrogena daily wash (use it when I have make up on and I need to remove it all), and The Body Shop Tee Tree Foam Wash (which I use when my face does not have make up on and I just need to wash it lightly - the reason why I alternate between two products is because you don't want your skin to become irritated by always using the same thing everytime.
6. Lastly, I exfoliate once a week - never everyday or every other day! - give it some time otherwise you will irritate your skin as well.
I know this all seems like a big task, but trust me, it will get better. Just hang in there, I am also in the same boat and it frustrates me everyday. But be proud that you are not injecting hormones into your system everyday, which your body will also thank you for. Having bad skin is only a small price to pay :)
Have a great day! xx

Hello to anyone who comes across this thread.. I started experiencing all the things that these women were going through after quitting Yasmin. My symptoms (acne & headache) began the same week I should have started a new pack. After reading how long it was taking everyone on here I was determined to find a holistic treatment. I did some research and found that a big part of the problem is that the hormones from the pill stay in our liver and that contributes to our bodies getting back to normal. I'm only 5 weeks in and while I haven't had a period yet, I have eliminated 98% of my acne. I was having headaches everyday/evening almost a week ago. All the supplements can be found on Amazon. Here is what I've been taking:
DIM - a phytonutrient (plant nutrient) found in cruciferous vegetables. Stated simply, supplementing the diet with DIM specifically promotes beneficial estrogen metabolism and helps restore a healthy hormonal balance.
Liver Detox (by Pure Co) consisting of Milk Thistle Extract(Silymarin) Plus Dandelion Root, Artichoke Leaf & Yellow Dock
Zinc: Blocks excess androgens (testosterone). Also kills bacteria and opens pores by reducing keratin production.
Fish Oil: Scientists have found that omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory effects. This bodes well for omega-3s and their potential for helping to clear up acne as inflammation is one of the most significant factors in acne severity.
Alive Women's multi containing several beneficial vitamins & minerals.
I also believe in the mind-body connection and compiled a list of affirmations to assist in my body finding balance:
Acne: The love and acceptance I have for myself is reflected in my outer appearance. I am a Divine expression of life. I love & accept myself where I am right now.
Female Related Problems: I rejoice in the feminine. I love being a women and I love my body.
Headache: I love and approve of myself. I see myself and what I do with eyes of love. I am safe.
Migraine: I relax into the flow of life and let life provide all that I need easily and comfortably. I love Life!
Hormone Imbalance & PMS: my bodily processes are a natural part of life. I love and approve of myself.
I hope some of you out there find this and have hope!

I came to this page about 6 months ago when I came off Yasmin and my acne started coming back. I'd had pretty bad acne before going on my first pill (Dianette) when I was 18 (I'm 24 now) so I worried about what would happen when I went back off the pill. I had been on and off the pill for 5 and a half years, I came off for a period in 2015 when a relationship ended but went back on in 2016 when I began a new one, and in that period my skin was terrible, and it took a while for it to level out even when back on the pill (Yasmin this time).
I am coming back to this forum because after trying various things for the past 6 months, topical treatments, a lot of skincare, not very much skin care, water, diet adjustments, the neutrogena light mask and antibiotics... I have found something that works for me the best. For one month now I have been taking cod liver oil and zinc as well as reducing (but by no means cutting out) my sugar intake and my skin is so much better! I am on my period now and whereas before I was getting at least 3 cysts and a tonne of smaller spots, I mean my skin was covered, on all my previous periods, this time my skin is mostly smooth (it's got red scaring on one cheek) and I'm only getting a few extra little spots. It's not at all perfect yet, but I can actually cover it with makeup and it is soooo much better. I am going to swap from cod liver oil to separate vitamin A and vitamin D supplements and I will be continuing the zinc (cod liver oil isn't ideal for many reasons but I was desperate to start after doing reading). I am going to check back in another month. Please do your own reading on vitamin A for acne because it has some risks and you can overdose on it if you're not careful and other than that it's quite an interesting read. Basically, vitamin A and vitamin D improve the quality of your skins sebum making it less sticky and less likely to clog pores and also reduce the amount of oil your skin produces. One of the main ingredients in Accutane is vitamin A. Some people say their skin got worse before it got better, I'd say that was kind of true for me for about a week but then it got much better. I am seriously excited and impressed by it.
