I am having similar symptoms. I stopped drinking coffee and it still comes and goes. But, if I do drink coffee it is 10 times worse. I have the new K-Cup brewer with the steamer for milk attached. I also have a Starbucks espresso machine. I was out of town and driving back home 8 hr drive from visiting my daughter and I was 4 hrs. from home and was drinking a cold brew pre-mix coffee by Starbucks and some skinny pop I got at the grocery store on my way. My mouth started to dry out so bad I couldn't swallow. I was freaking out as I was driving. I could not get enough water. I found an ER and they treated me for an allergic reaction. The Benadryl helped, but since January I am still having symptoms of my tongue feels like I burnt it on something hot all the way to the back of my throat. I got allergy tested and I have a few fish allergies but the allergist didn't seem to think he needed to be bothered with me. I sometimes feel like I need to drink water more. My tongue is white but I make sure I am hydrated. Went to an ENT and he said, possibly dry mouth syndrome? He suggests getting blood tested am my regular Dr. to make sure I don't have something else going on. It is VERY frustrating to not know day to day if I am going to react like this. I take Benadryl as it helps me sleep and also seems to help my symptoms whether it is or not? If I drink certain alcoholic drinks it makes it worse. Whiskey is the worse. So, I avoid that one! I have never has this problem until January after I traveled out of town. If I brush my tongue, it makes it 10 times worse! I did have a iron deficiency a year ago but I had a medical laser procedure that helped with that. I am just hoping it is as simple as some sort of vitamin deficiency. It is very difficult to deal with this. I also get face burning . I have tried different shampoos and nothing seems to be helping. I feel like a walking medical book. Why all of a sudden is this happening out of the blue?

I know your post is about a year old but I happened across it looking for throat issues seeming to be caused by chai tea. I recently bought Celestial Seasonings India Spiced Chai tea - K cups. The first week I had it I had a cup. Not long after my throat hurt, not like a sore throat but like the wall or muscles in my throat were sore and I could press around the bottom of it and feel discomfort. Yesterday I had a cup of the tea, same thing and I still feel the discomfort today. I drink Stash Chai tea made from their tea bags and have had not issues. I have thrown away the CS K cups...I think it is something to do with them or the blend. Weird.
