Ranitidine decreases the amount of hydrochloric acid the stomach produces. Ranitidine’s application is by treating ulcers in the stomach and intestines, by gastroesophageal reflux disease and to diminish side effects of therapy with NSAIL (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs) on stomach. It’s usage is once or twice a day. You should take it 30-60 minutes before eating or drinking foods that cause heartburn. You should continue therapy with ranitidine as long as it takes to heal an ulcer.
Many people take ranitidine for long time, because ulcers are renewing, especially by susceptible persons. If you are taking antacids (drugs which counteract stomach acidity or stomach acid neutralizers) as part of therapy, you shouldn’t take them within 1 hour of taking ranitidine. Antacids may decrease the effectiveness of ranitidine.
