Couldn't find what you looking for?

My husband went for a colonoscopy and a endoscopy, because he was experiencing pain in his stomach and bleeding in his stools.
When they did the colonoscopy, the doctors said that although they hadn't found anything very bad, he did have a few hemorrhoid's very high up, that they banded while he was sedated. But when they did the endoscopy, they found a ulcer and 3 RED patches in his stomach. They took biopsy's from these and sent them off. We will find out the results in 2 weeks.

This is very worrying, and I would like to know what it could mean.

A stomach ulcer indicates that a mucosal lining of the stomach has been damaged. There are a couple of possible causes. One of them is the lining’s exposure to hydrochloric acid, which is an acid produced by the stomach during digestive process in the stomach. Frequent use of NSAI drugs (like aspirin, ibuprofen, etc) on empty stomach has been found to cause damage to the stomach lining. The third common cause is a presence of bacterium called Helicobacter pylori that may be spread through contaminated food and water.

Since the doctors found an ulcer, they probably took a sample to check for the presence of this bacterium. The bacterium is eradicated from the body after an antibiotic treatment.

Stomach ulcers are not that dangerous since they are rarely connected with malignancy but they are annoying as cause tremendous amounts of pain.

If a person is genetically predisposed or has been under a lot of stress, s/he is at risk of suffering from stomach ulcers as well. Cigarette smoking is there to worsen the condition or contribute to its appearance.

People who suffer from stomach ulcers are always given a course of tablets to reduce the amount of acid, antibiotics if h. pylori was found and are advised to pay attention to their dietary changes and habits.
This may mean that you will have to change some of the nutritional habits yourself, but it’ll do you only good since these habits are the healthy ones.
