I honestly think it is different for everyone. Did you go back on bc to stop the symptoms you are having from coming off of it? I think for me it took a solid three weeks at minimum to start feeling better. It's a rough road but you can get through it. Try some hormone cream if you stop your bc again. I will never go back on another bc pill again. Too many other options out there. Good luck to you, this too shall pass.

Hi there, I am experiencing these exact symptoms now after coming off the pill. I was wondering how long it took to get better and return to normal for you? Thanks

Can you let me know if this worked for you? I am afraid it wont work for me

Has anyone experienced brain fog? If so, did you find anything to help it? That's my main concern everything else is starting to go away

Can anyone help me out? I thought my birth control (Primella which is a combination pill) was causing my anxiety so I decided to ditch them about 2 weeks ago. Well 1 week ago I had the worst panic attack and I had to resort to taking a benzo to stop it. So some background, I am a panic attack veteran. I have had them before I know what they are like. But this was different. Way. Way. Way. Worse. So should I get back on my birth control? I only stopped it because I thought it was causing my anxiety. Maybe my natural hormones are too messed up? I didn't even get a period when I stopped it (again I understand that is normal). Did anyone get horrible anxiety and then decide to go back on birth control? Did it help?

Hey there. So I did start to get anxiety towards the end of my being on the pill a couple years. At the time I didn't know what real anxiety was so I explained that I was feeling very strange. I had my first panic attack ever within the first couple weeks of stopping the pill.
I ended up having debilitating anxiety and random panic attacks an entire 5 months off the pill. Benzos were the only thing that helped but they were too strong and I couldn't function while on them.
This is just a thought but I think the pill disrupted our normal hormone production so when we quit the pill our bodies were in shock and forgot how to make hormones on their own.
Anyways fast forward 1 year later and still off the pill, and I'm sooooo much better. It takes time and normal period cycles, but it does get better.
Eating clean, exercise, some supplements, and self thought cognitive therapy will help. It's a battle but I wouldn't risk going back on the pill especially if you've already had a reaction. You'll have to go off one day or another.

Thank you for your response! I took my birth control again and within a couple hours I started to feel so much better. I am not sure if it is related or not. All I know is I was in a med withdrawal (which I knew was causing crazy anxiety and panic attacks) but then I thought "Hey what if it's my birth control?" So I stopped it. I thought I felt better at first but then everything just went down hill from there. Also I am 25 and not planning on becoming pregnant any time soon. Could stopping the birth control have been too much for my body to handle in med withdrawal? I did read that low estrogen can cause anxiety and panic attacks.

Hey ladies,
Quick question, I stopped the pill about a month ago after having really bad anxiety from it, depression and that works. Since then, my doc has given me an SSRI (Lexapro) to help with the anxuety and depression. Truth is, I can't tell if it's helping or hurting.
Has anyone had any experience with antidepressants and going off the pill?

I got off the pill and after 2 years of anxiety/depression and ups and downs. I went on Lexapro. I heard it takes at least 8-12 weeks for it to even start working. Give it time. I noticed that on it my crying is less...takes time tho. Keep me updated I just got on it about 4 weeks ago but missed 4 days due to hurricane so basically restarted yesterday again. Will keep u updated.

I actually took Lexapro around five years ago for anxiety, and it worked wonders for me. This time around, it just made me feel really numb and down, after three weeks. I'm sort of telling myself that maybe it's a sign to give my brain/body time to settle down from the Pill and see how I feel in a few months.
I hope it works for you!

Hi Olof, I have been researching this issues for about 3 months because my sister has been experiencing panic and anxiety since stopping long term birth control. I found that this can be relieved with bioidentical hormone treatment. It involves doing lab testing and then taking bioidentical hormones made at a compounding pharmacy. There are a number of providers on the web. I was able to find one about an hour and half away and she will get her lab results back Thursday and hopefully start the hormone treatment. From what I have read this is not uncommon with women that are going through perimenopause as well as those coming off birth control. I believe some providers can do treatment solely through mail and internet.

Not sure yet bc it involves having blood and saliva tests done and we do not have all the results back yet. However, the blood test did show her progesterone level was 0, progesterone is the hormone that balances estrogen. Estrogen dominance causes all sorts of symptoms one of which is anxiety and panic. She did start an oral bioidentical progesterone about a week ago and now has a prescription for a bioidentical progesterone cream but she cannot get that from the compounding pharmacy until Monday. But she does feel better that she now has a blood test which may give a reason for and solution to her symptoms.
