I am in my mid 40s and my oldest is turning 16. I am petrified of needles so I said right from the beginning "NO EPIDURALS" well to make a long story short, even though I was begging them not to do, (as the baby was not in danger) I ended up being given a spinal, that seem to go in fine but then a few hours later this fellow with a mask walks in and said "you have to have an epidural, I said I really didn't want one and the current spinal seemed to be doing ok, he then said that he was leaving at 4 o clock and if something happened it would be on my shoulders and turned around and walk out, I was devastated and started crying because my husband and I really didn't know what to do, and the nursing staff was no help, I finally agreed and from there my misery began, on the 4th attempt to put the needle in my spine I was begging and screaming for the anesthesiologist to stop, the pain was unlike anything I had ever experienced, I assume to this day that my baby was rushed out of me because of a shift change.. with in 48 hours I developed back spasms and a dull headache and with in the next 2 days became totally immobilized by what I now know was an "epidural headache" and as a result by 5 days after delivery I had to move in with my motherinlaw to look after me and the baby as I couldnt lift my head off the pillow and that's where I stayed for the next 5 weeks in the most agonizing pain I had ever had in my life. I was back and forth to doctors who apparently couldn't put 2 and 2 together and even put me in traction thinking it was my neck, my vision was affected, I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks by not being able to keep food down, and I constantly tried to make my own doctor see the "sticky fluid" that was coming out of the injection sites. I was finally sent for cortisone shot in a nerve in my neck to block the pain and that finally broke the pain cycle, but then comes the back issues I never ever had any back problems prior to his birth, about 6 months later I took a bout of back pain, it lasted for a day or two, but life went on , I had another child 5 years later, naturally and quick was the delivery, with no back pain thru out the pregnancy , but over the past few years the bouts became more frequent over the years and lasted longer and now I'm on my 8th week of straight back pain, all the scans come back clear and the doctor says it s all mucles but 2 months ago I noticed a clicking noise in my pelvic bone and when it would click I could feel it on the SI joint in my back on the left side, and 2 weeks ago I developed back spasms, which left me completely immobilized.. spasms on and off for 8 days, muscle relaxers, Tylenol 3 or pain killers did nothing... I'm now just getting some mobility back and have notice a small sensitive lump near the injection areas as well as what looks like some dull bruising at the base of my spine about the size of a fist... I'm now back and forth to my doctor and since all the scans are clear of bone issures, I guess I have to bring up the question of could it be scar tissuefrom the epidural needles. I don't know if the clicking noise of the pelvis and SI Joint is one issue and the epidural is causing another. I do know that this bout of pain is the worse I have ever had, I just know that I'm tired of going to doctors and being told there is nothing wrong or nothing they can do.. there has to be a way to find out what is causing dehabilitating back pain.. I do know that before my son was born at my 31 years of age, I had a strong healthy back, with no backpain during pregnancy and I truly have never felt like I had a strong healthy back since. Thanks for listening.

I have exactly same experience. Almost 24 years ago had an epidural. To this day I get sharp pains in lower back, usually the left side before or during periods. It's not every month, but more often than not.

I had an epidural with my c-section with my son's birth 5 years ago, and i also have to admit that ever since the epidural i have had terrible back pain where standing for a long time hurts, but the worst pain i experience is when im lying flat in bed, turning in bed at night is like pulling teeth without pain meds, and getting up in the mornings is a no go, i eventually get myself onto my knees and try and arch my back so that i can try and get rid of some of the pain before falling out of bed.
I was looking all over the internet for someone who spoke about the pain in the mornings getting out of bed, and then i found yours, and i honestly believe that this pain is only caused by the epidural.

I am also experiencing this pain. I had my last child 10 years ago and the anesthesiologist kept having to start over with my spinal tap because she kept messing up. Until then I never had experienced any back pain. I can barely stand ten minuted without feeling excruciating pain in my back. I also feel pain in my hands along with circulutory problems though I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the anesthesia given to me. The doctor has been no help, only giving me medicine that doesn't work. For awhile I was going to physical therapy but that only worked short-term.
