I have a quick question that is just kinda bothering me lately. My girlfriend just got on birth control over a month ago. Well on her first back she started on the first day of her period (which i read means she is protected immediately) and she was on the end of her third week of pills and we had unprotected sex for like 5 minutes without a condom and then put a condom on before i finished. Right when she was done with the first pack we had unprotected sex 2 or 3 nights in a row ( we were on vacation) and i finished inside of her. Are we safe? she didnt get her period because she just started a new pack without takin the 4 brown pills. She wanted to skip her period so the doc told her to skip those pills and start a new pack. So im really worried because i read wait a month, wait 7 days, wait 3 three months. I read if she starts on the day of her period we are good to go immediately. So any answers i would really appreciate. %-)

Well, I had heard the wait one month thing, but I'm not sure. However, you should know that birth control is not one hundred percent. There will always be a chance that she could get pregnant even if you use birth control AND a condom. The positive side is that the pill does lower that chance.

you should be fine in theory (and according to most directions) with her having taken it on the first day of her period it should be immediately effective, though i believe there are circumstances where this is not true it's rare. generally it's considered after taking 7 consecutive active pills you are definitely protected. it seems though that the longer someone uses the pill, perhaps the greater it's effectiveness, which i would say accounts for the longer estimates.

as a side note, my girlfriend is on the combined pill and we have been having sex for ~8 months. a lot of that time we have been starting without a condom and finishing with one. perhaps not the safest thing to do but i think it is quite effective as long as the risks are understood.
