I don't know if I have ASMR ... but the sounds, people whispering in my ears, going to do my haircut, people who touch my neck, back, my checks, softly triggers an involuntary reaction in in the middle of my back .... not in the head and it doesn't relax me at all, for me it's really really annoying... what it's worst literally when I kiss a girl it happens and gets out of control .. I have to stop.. I have never enjoy a kiss and relax on it because of that. It's frustrating.

The sensation is like cramp or contraction in the middle of my back on the right side. Im not sure if it is that or could be something more serious ...I came here looking for some help ... or if someone also experience it knows something, or someone who knows the name of that condition specifically.

Hello Jorge,

to be honest, ASMR is not really scientifically recognized as something potentially dangerous and isn’t all that well researched so there is no way of telling if you're experiencing a bad case of auto-sensory meridian response, even though it sounds to me just like that might be the case. Since you experience cramping, it probably would be the best to visit the doctor because of cramping/ contractions - I'm not too sure that all doctors are familiar with ASMR, or that they even have the equipment to test for changes that happen in your autonomous nervous system when you're in situation that can trigger ASMR.

Wish you all the best,

Nicole

Hi Jorge -

i have the same thing - I have the pleasurable trance-inducing ASMR sensations, but sometimes or with certain stimuli (especially anyone touching my head or whispering in my right ear) I get intense jolts of energy moving down my spine that causes me to involuntarily arch my back.  I wouldn't call that sensation pleasurable - but it's not exactly painful - just very intense, and I have to pull away from whatever is causing it.  I don't think it's dangerous or a health concern, I've had it as long as I can remember, but it is overwhelming sometimes, especially when kissing/touch triggers the jolts.  I'm sorry it's such a problem for you right now  - keep asking about it in forums and see if anyone has advice for managing it - I will too.  Good luck!  I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but it's nice to know there's someone else out there with this wacko sensation!

O M G I have been looking for so long to find someone like me! It's been about 7 years but I found your question and IM THE EXACT SAME!! It started when I was at the hairdressers getting my hair washed, I would have to restrain myself from jolting out of the seat. I get what you mean about the cramp. For me it doesn't *hurt* it's more like a spasm sort of thing. I can't listen to any sort of ASMR with headphones on and at one point it even got as extreme as not being able to listen to music with headphones. Every time it's triggered I involuntary arch my back!

I'm the exact same! Right ear and everything. I can listen to asmr with my entire ear no problem but as soon as the headphone is on the right ear, immediate jolt to the spine!

I've had this for as long as I can remember, though in recent years the sensation has moved a little further down my spine and sometimes instead or alongside spasms, it's a tingly feeling too.

Holy c**p, been looking for anyone else with this for ages. Mine is right ear and lower right abdomen. It just spasms anytime someone whispers in the ear.

You're not alone! I experience it too and it's not the most pleasant thing. It gets worse when someone whispers in my right ear or talk in a low tune right beside me or behind me, when I use a hair dryer or use an headphone in my right ear. They're all exclusive to my right ear and it hurts. It's unpleasant an really uncomfortable.

I have experience both, ASMR and those "tickles". They are very different. ASMR is pleasurable and feels like a head orgasm that relaxes you and helps you fall asleep. Those tickles are the opposites. They happen on the right side of my body from my neck/shoulders to the right shoulder blade. They are uncomfortable and don't help you feel good or fall asleep. It's not dangerous, as far as I know. However, science hasn't studied this very much, like ASMR. People that don't experience both often mistake it as ASMR. I've found that it helps to apply pressure to the area you feel it to help go away. Get a trigger point therapy cane to help you reach the area.

Hi. I will interrupt for a minute. :)

First and foremost, it is important to determine if the cramp or contraction is a medical condition or a muscular issue. If you suspect that it is a medical condition, it is important to seek medical advice and treatment.

If the cramp or contraction is muscular in nature, it is important to address the root cause. This could include stretching, strength training, foam rolling, and/or massage. Additionally, some people find relief from heat or cold therapy, such as a heating pad or an ice pack.

As for ASMR, some people find that certain techniques, such as listening to soft music, focusing on slow and steady breathing, and visualizing a calming scene can help relax the body and mind. Additionally, there are some ASMR videos available online that are designed to help people relax.

Hope this will help someone.

YES! It’s like when someone pokes you just above the hip and it creates a massive tickling jolt.. I’ve always thought it was a sinus disorder. It’s the worst when I go for a haircut. I cannot sit still while being treated with clippers against my right ear because it will make me jump with major tickles

I experience the exact same thing! Came across this thread while googling wtf this is about. It has always been an issue but not in my everyday life, but I got a kid a year ago and now I have to stop myself from recoiling when I try to put him asleep and he is making weird noises and talking and kissing my ear!!! It’s adorable obviously but makes my lower back twitch - not suitable for putting a baby to bed. Also always on the right side. The response about foam rolling and stuff like that I don’t feel helpful. Also it really feels more like a nerve-thing?

I’m wondering though, do any of you have tinnitus or any other troubles with your ears? I’ve been having problems since I was a kid (in Swedish we call it “ear child” I’m not sure how that translates lol) but thought maybe it’s related to some ear surgeries I had growing up??

I have the exact same thing you are all describing!!! At the hairdressers, listening to ASMR or if anyone touches the top right of my scalp at all it sends a jolt down the right of my back/spine. I feel it most on the right side of my back where my kidney would be I think? And yes I have tinnitus!!! At the hairdressers when they wash my hair I have to push my neck rlly hard against the sink to reduce the back sensation and it makes my vision go dark. I wanna know what the cause is !!!!
