Hi, I am 19 yo male and I have noticed blood in semen, I have no pain and discomfort and I also haven’t noticed blood in my urine. What this could be, can this be some STD? I have had sex with only one girl, and we had protected sex using condoms.

If you have protected sex I doubt this could be some STD, and I don’t even know if blood in the semen is a symptom of some STD, but I do know is that it could be caused by inflamation, infection, blockage or injury in the male reproductive tract. It indicates the problem either in epididymis, prostate, urethra or testicles. If this hematospermia (blood in semen) last a few days and goes away on its own, this could be the inflamation of seminal vessicles, but if it is persistant, you should ask for the medical help and further examinations. If it shows it is some kind of infection, it is usually treated with oral antibiotics, and sometimes injections, but this is rare. I would always suggest that if you notice the blood in your semen, to make the appt with the doctor as you should find a real cause of this problem, and it should be treated on time.

This is not an STD it is Haemospermia (blood in the semen)

For most men, haemospermia is a one-off event.

What is Haemospermia?

When semen changes from its usual cream-white colour to white with 'a hint of pink', or is bloodstained, it's called haemospermia, which simply means blood in the semen. The semen can also appear brownish-red in colour. Whatever the shade, it isn't normal and means something is not right and should be checked out.

One problem with haemospermia is that it invariably causes men great anxiety. Another problem is that the cause often remains unknown.
Causes/Risk Factors

Haemospermia most commonly affects men in their 30s, although it's by no means exclusive to this age group.

It's not always possible to prevent it from occurring, but if the cause can be found then taking care to avoid such triggers can result in fewer sleepless nights.

Most commonly, haemospermia is a consequence of non-specific inflammation of the urethra (the tube urine passes through), prostate and/or seminal vesicles. That is, inflammation anywhere along the path semen follows when leaving the body.

Other possible causes include:

* Minor trauma - the result of vigorous sexual activity, for example, or a trouser-zip accident.
* Infections of the genital tract this is usually accompanied by other symptoms, including pain on urination, scrotal tenderness or swelling, groin tenderness or aching, pain on ejaculation, low back pain, fever or chills.
* Biopsy of the prostate gland, where seminal fluid is manufactured.
* In rare instances, haemospermia is secondary to cancer.

For most men, haemospermia is a one-off event. For some, though, the problem is a recurrent one for which a cause cannot be identified, despite full and thorough investigation.
Treatment/Recovery

It may necessary to refer a man with haemospermia to the local hospital urology service where a number of tests such as laboratory examination of urine and semen, ultrasound or CT scans, or even a cystourethroscopy (a telescopic examination of the inside of the urinary tract under anaesthetic) may be recommended in order to check the diagnosis.

Fortunately, in the majority of cases haemospermia is benign and self-limiting, so no specific treatment is required other than a large dose of reassurance and advice about safer practices.

Where an underlying cause is identified - for example, infection or inflammation - specific treatment can be provided. This may involve a course of antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medication.

found this online while I was looking it up for myself hope it helps.

22 year old male 9 sexual partners. Last two half years one, I was checked for clamydia, gonnarea and syphylis right before that. Any ways came blood, not spot or dry brown blood. It was color of blood, with texture of cum, for sure freaked me out for sure!! No blood in urine. Called urologist, got soonest appointment two days later, so must not be life or death. (They did ask why I needed to come in)

Been 24 hours not lookin to get off until I get more info. So not sure if there is stiill blood.
Go to doctor tomorrow will keep everyone uppdated.

Sorry have been busy!

Spoke to Urologist, he asked if there was any pain. I replied no. he also asked if I had any pain while urinating. No to that one too.

He asked if I ejaculatied I told him point blank I have been to freaked out to even try.

Then he literally told me " I wouldn't lose any sleep over it." ... all I can think is thats easy for him to say!

But he acted like it wasnt a big deal. He figured it was from trauma of some sort. example: over physical activity, getting hit in the jewels. I didnt recall any of that but he specified that sounds like what happend.

He let me know that the next few times I do ejaculate it would be brown clotty lookin. And sure enough it was for about the next 6 times. The Doctor then did a basical physical, cough and such. Then he told me to drop my drawers and bend over the table...... Im just gonna say ...not fun... he had to check my prostate. basically to make sure there was no cancer. I told him "well this is akward."
He then asked me if I would rather have a whole team of surgeons working on my ass because I didnt get checked and treated. Or a Doctor doing a routine check. It was ungodly uncomfortable, but no pain. (If there was pain that would be bad).

All and all Im good now! No problems at all! He gave me a perscription for a antibiotic so there would be no infection. I never went and got it do to embarassement.

If your in fear of getting checked because the prostate exam. Honestly what the Doctor said should be enough.

NSURN you are my HERO right now lol I am 24 now and I have the same problem. I dont know how this happened. But I too have been having sex protected and when I saw the blood I was a lil took at the time. I have no pain at all but I think from all the research I have done, I have come to the conclusion there is no big issue and there is nothing to really be done. Its either A take some antibiotics and be done with it or B ride it out. But one of the main reasons this happens is from stree to the testicle area. i.e. taking a hit to them, rough sex that results into repeated pounding, or from the strain of squatting via working out or just trying to lift something. All in all the only thing we can do to protect ourselves from having this issue is protect our nuts. That means loose fitted underpants and pant attire. Other than that I have no other findings. Hope this helps someone the way everyone elses responses have helped me.

I am 40's male, have exactly the same thing described above, scared the hell out of me... had sex on 4th and 8th, no symptom, then suddenly on 11th it just happened.... cannot recall any major trauma.... sex on 4th was rough but the thing was no symptom on 8th.... if its STD, now the 17th (usually 4 to 10 days for first sign) and no sign.

Visited doctor on 15th..... given me antibiotics... plus doing urine test, semen test, as well as blood test, things like STD and PSA, just to cover all angles, and costing me a lot of $ for the tests. Will know result in 2 more days... keeping my fingers crossed, either no positive result from tests (which will be good) but will mean not knowing what actually happened. Will try to keep you posted here.

My husband and I have gone through the same thing, we made love and the semen came out pink, I thought I was starting but did not! He has a double hernia and this is obviously caused by the hernia. He does not hurt but had to go to the doctor a while back due to the hernia.  I guarantee that it is not an STD. It is caused by over straining and sometimes can just happen out of no where.  Months go by and nothing; regular semen. But every once in a while heis sperm comes out a pinkish shade. He is fine! He is 30. So don't freak out so bad over it, just get checked and see if there has been a trama to your groin area and  you should be fine. Later in life you may need a surgery on your prostate or groin area. My husband is very active sexually and physically at work , things happen! Alway be safe and protect yourself when having sex. You never know when you might catch something but in this case I true feel safe that it is not an STD. Be safe to all! It is not normal but can happen with men.
