Hi, what do you mean by a flannel? Like just a flannel shirt? And you freeze it?

A flannel is a hand towel/cloth/washer.. drench it in cold water, it seems to help a bit. You could also pop it in the freezer for a few minutes, it'll be extra cold and soothing :) The spots are generally caused by strain, eg. a coughing fit or throwing up. I'm not sure if it helps to have your eyes closed. It usually fades in a few days, if it stays for years though, it may be a different thing altogether, get some second opinions.

Hi, I googled this problem, not knowing a name for the condition. I've never had it happen before, but of course, I'm older and things don't work as well now! ;o)
I hate to talk of delicate issues, but frankly I was REALLY constipated and strained very hard on the stool. That's when the discussed issue came up. Yup...the vessels around my eyes, both above and below popped out. Looked like I had been given a punch in the eye--not bruised looking, but real red! OMGosh!
So now I know there's a name for this--Petechiae. Sheesh. So I guess it's just a waiting game? Next time I'm worried about having this happen again, I'm wondering if I should emmediately put cold compresses on my eyes to try to lessen the affects. (Cold contricts blood vessels, right?

i accidentally swallowed cholesterol 2 pills instead of the prescribed dose of 1. i realised this as the two pills just slipped from my mouth into my throat. i freaked out because i thought it might be harmful. i had two fingers stuck down my throat trying to get at them while gagging hard with head faced down in the sink. i tried to keep the pills from gettug down further by tilting my head upside down as i tried to induce vomitting. it didnt work. i didn't realise what all that pressure and blood flow to my head hasd done until i looked at my face in the mirror. the soft delicate area under my eyes was seriously swollen and i could tiny thin red flecks over the puffy flesh. i knew something was wrong. my eyes were very sore and sensitive. i figured i must have burst vessels and tried a damp cold towel first, then popped two ice cubes in the toewl to make it colder. that felt good but my mom a retired nurse said to put ice cubes in a latex glove twist the end shut and apply the ice that way as it's more direct and less leaky. it's definetlt brought trhe swelling down a lot. i thiink the key is to act fast and be patient. get the ice on your eyes and keep changing cubes for as long as you can. once the ice melts a bit its easier tospread it over your eye more comfortably. bottom line: get ice on the affected area asap. good luck. i'm typing with one hand holding a ice packed glove as i type this.

So what you all are saying is that they will go away and I won't be stuck with them forever?! I got sick last night and now have a cluster of red dots on both sides of my cheeks closer to the lips. I have never had this happen from getting sick. I sure hope they go away!

my son aged 9 years. Suffered a bout of sickness a few months ago. Due to this he developed burst blood vessels all over his neck and chest. Doc checked him over and confirmed it was due to the stress of vomiting. He woke up this morning with another sickness bug and this time his whole face is covered in broken blood vessels, some of them so big from a distance the look like spots. I am going to check with the doc again but i am sure it is fine and that after 2 to 5 days they will have cleared again. I am however concerned that if this happens every time he has a bug, if it can cause any long term damage. Does anyone know of someone suffering any complications due to repeated episodes?

I find that washing face in ice cold water straight away after being sick can reduce the red spots and sometimes stop them.
I am covered in them at the moment (didnt take my own advice), it never happened when i was younger (36 now). I worry that one day
they wont fade. Bare Essential foundation does cover them brilliantly though!!

Well when i was sick i used Aloe cream (the stuff you use for a sunburn) it helps because it cools your skin down and helps it repair the blood vessel i also used an ice pack and they both worked well. hope this helps!

I had a heated argument with my husband tonight & noticed a lot of red dots under both eyes. I have never experienced this before. They look like broken blood vessels, which I have a couple of on other areas of the face. Some have stated they had them after being sick & they go away in about a week. Does this apply in this case also? Should I see a Dermatologist?

This happens to me every time I force myself to throw up when I am really sick. Just a shout out to those who find that the red dots in their eyes aren't going away in the 5 days that was mentioned previously, it is okay. The red dots in my eyes seemed to clump together to form a red line and then didn't disappear till about a month and a half after. I threw up around thanksgiving and all my Christmas pictures have a red line on my eyeball. It finally went away after New Years.

I get terrible the flu and colds every year so I thought I would try the herb ELDERBERRY which is supposed to fight viruses.
I took 1 capsule (400mg) and within minutes my skin around my eye felt like i had been playing with chili peppers and had touched around my eyes. Then my skin started to feel itchy and then my hole face started to get  beet red, my ears then my neck.
I could see the blood vessles starting to pop on my face and new I was experiencing an ALLERGIC reaction to the herb!

I immediately stuck my finger down my throat repeatedly to spell out the herb and could see within minutes the redness started to subside.
But my face! It had broken blood vessels all around the eyes and under the eyelids was bright red. I got on the internet and found out my body's immune system responded incorrectly and started producing an antibody to the herb to fight it.

My body was producing mass amounts of histamine and causing blood vessels to erupt.
I then took some sudafed and starting icing my face a few hours later.

5 hrs later I feel much better, the redness subsided, but I have many red spots on my face around my eyes and my eyelids on the bottom are still bright red.
I hope this all goes away in time, God Bless...

The blotches on your face are from all the pressure your body's under usualy after vomiting alot. It can take from 1-3 or 1-5 days to go away. It just depends how bad it is because i get them around my mouth and eyelids alot.
