Hi, I have a geographic tongue. It happens pretty often with me. I myslef am not sure about all of the symptom or why it occurs. I do have asthma and I do notice that if I eat spicey foods my tongue very much dislikes me. I can't use mouth washes.. It feels like my tongue has been burnt like by some coffee.. and it is a tingling feeling. I really dislike the disorder because of the fact it does change the way things taste to me. When I have a break out the food I eat usaully just taste bitter.. I've never had ulcers though. I was very young when I was diagnosed with it too so if I were to have an ulcer I probably would'nt have remebered lol.

I have suffered for many years with this exact thing.  After watching it come and go over the years I have to admit, although I don't want to, that it pops up at times of stress. During those times I'm not eating as well as usual which contributes to the discomfort.  When I look in the mirror and see those patches of redness I know I"ve got to slow down in my life. De-stress and start paying closer attention to what I'm eating!

I myself have been reading about this mysterious geographic tongue. I have been trying to figure all of the things that could have caused for me and that is why I am replying to you. Mine started with metalic taste that would overwhelm my mouth and that is when It went from a couple on smooth lesions to both sides of my tongue about four on each side and one on the tip of the tongue. I also suffer from acid reflux and was wondering myself if someone was experiecing this aswell. Good luck we will both need it.

I have both burning mouth syndrome and, currently, painful fissures in my tongue.  The BMS does get worse when I get off the antacid such as omeprazole or Zegerid and better when I get back on it.  Also, when it's really hurting, I can get an hour or so relief from taking a Tums and letting it melt in my mouth.  I mention it so that it might help some of you as well.

I also have this - it's from reflux. I find that after eating if i drink a mug of beef oxo(a salthy drink) then brush my teeth with biotene toothpaste, then take 2 spoons of Gaviscon Advance, and a final gargle with warm salt, this will relieve the burning for a couple of hours. Then as the reflux starts again, it breaks down the Gaviscon, so I use a numbing agent on my tongue and lips, then start the whole process again. I am also waiting on pepsin tests to see if it is pepsin and bile that gets in the mouth - I feel no heartburn only burping. Hope that this helps.

Triggers for GT appear to differ between suffers.   Having experimented a lot in my case cutting out tea and coffee, sipping water and if I can't clean my teeth after eating I chew gum to generate saliva and "clean" my mouth - these things have reduced the GT to very low (almost non-existent) levels.   If I drink tea it rapidly comes back.

Good luck and  God bless...

1 Liquid B12 once per day.....

2 Zinc lozenge, the kind that are used to shorten the duration of a cold

3 Stop using or curtal the use of sugar.

4 Do drink water

I suffered for 2 years with this creey c**p and after 9 days of cutting out the sugar and using step 1&2 my tongue looks normal..feels normal. If I have to take the lozenges then so be it...its better than walking around with a painful/sore tongue all of the time

Guys you may try b-complex or b12 one pill per day. it takes between one or three months to see the results. Do not be stressful as stress may make it worse

Yes. I was diagnosed with GT two weeks ago. Very sore, patchy, inflamed, burning. My doctor said it was not a fungal infection. Are there any vitamins or supplements that can help? Are there any foods to be fearful of? Does anyone know how best to care for this? Is there anyone who has had any good results? Does it ever go away? I am 66 years old, female, with Reflux and have been on meds for years. In Nov. 2013 I had surgery and my esophagus was badly inflamed because of the oxygen tube. X-Rays showed no damage to esophagus [thank goodness] but I have had dry mouth ever since. I also take two puffers/day which I have been told aids in the dryness. Can I have some feedback please. I take my hat off to fellow sufferers, truly I do.
