Hello,
I’m supposed to start my treatment with 5% Efudex for pre-cancerous cells found on my face next week and since I’ll be using Efudex for the next four weeks I’ve been reading a lot of others’ experiences in terms of what I can expect when it comes to side effects.
I know both Carac and Efudex have the same active substance, fluorouracil, but some people say that Carac is less concentrated and because of that causes less side effects such as itching, burning and peeling of the skin. Is this true?

Hello,
even though Carac has the lower concentration of fluorouracil compared to Efudex, the difference is not only that. Carac has a different way it delivers fluorouracil to affected skin cells which is more efficient, so basically affected skin cells get the same concentration of fluorouracil with either of those medications.
I'm afraid that some of the side effects are just the consequence of how fluorouracil itself attacks the affected skin cells and the whole process is without a doubt long and painful, since in the end, the ultimate goal of both of these medications is to kill cancerous skin cells.
