My Granddaughter is 10 1/2 months old and has tested positive for C-Diff. I have been searching the internet for subjects concerning this and have found serveral articles saying that children under one year of age should not be tested for this because it is normal flora for this age group.
My question is, "Why is my daughter's peditrician treating this with more antibiotics? Should he be? Is my grandaughter at risk? Please answer ASAP for our baby's sake.

I am a registered nurse and a mother of a baby boy who is 10 months old. Babies frequently get diarrhea along with or after finishing antibiotics. Grown-ups as well. The reason why is because antibiotic destroy the active good flora in the lining of the gastrointestinals. Give the little one yogurt with active cultures. That should take care of it in no time. If they aren't eating off of a spoon yet use your judgement but give them a smoothie through a bottle.
