I had a cyst removed recently and I was put on this antibiotic and I'm experiencing pain in my chest, and chest pains while swallowing food. I was told this med don't cause this. I'm glad I found this article. I can't help but think I'm having a heart attack.

Why do they even prescribe such. I'm on it right now and it's unbearable swallowing food.

I had a cyst removed as well. Not sure why they prescribe this garbage. It's mainly for acne. I was never told no to lay after taking it. Ugh!

Hey all! I was prescribed doxycycline 100mg 2x daily for an infected rash. Around 30 minutes after taking the medication as prescribed, I experienced chest pains, mild shortness of breath, pain radiating to my arms and palpitations. I was sure I was having a heart attack and took some klonopin to calm down before considering a trip to the ER. It looks like these are common side effects. Aside from taking with plenty of food and water, drinking a large cup of caffeine-free hot tea shortly after taking the medication helped me. I chose caffeine free herbal tea in this case because caffeine could increase any anxiety I was experiencing. It's been 2 days on doxycycline; I'll come back and post anything else I learn by day 10.

Godspeed, folks! We're all gonna make it.

Hey Everyone! This forum really helped ease my mind as I, too, was getting a bit scared at my symptoms. Was prescribed Doxycycline for acne on Tuesday and Thursday night I took it with minimum water and laid down immediately thereafter...woke up Friday with minor trouble swallowing...continued taking Doxy thinking whatever I was feeling would go away. Sunday morning work up with the worse pain in my upper chest. No problems swallowing in the throat area but once it got down then I had the pain in my chest (right side, under ribs). Stopped doxy and pain is better than it was on Sunday so that's good. Able to eat and drink; however, still with some pain/discomfort but good to know that it will eventually go away.

Hello, guest.

It sounds like you may be experiencing symptoms of esophagitis, which is inflammation of the esophagus that can be caused by various factors, including medication use, infections, and acid reflux.

Since you mentioned taking doxycycline pills, which can sometimes cause irritation of the esophagus when taken with insufficient water or while lying down, it is possible that this is the cause of your symptoms.

In any case, it is important to seek medical attention to rule out any underlying conditions and obtain proper treatment.

In the meantime, you can try some home remedies to help alleviate your symptoms, such as:

- Avoiding foods that are spicy, acidic, or hard to swallow.
- Drinking plenty of water to help flush out any irritants and soothe the esophagus.
- Taking over-the-counter antacids or acid reducers to help neutralize stomach acid.
- Elevating the head of your bed to reduce acid reflux symptoms.
- Avoiding lying down for at least two hours after eating to allow your food to digest.

If you have any more questions, I will be happy to help.

I took this for 11 days then thought I woke up on day 12 thinking I was having a heart attack and could barely swallow. Stopped taking it waiting for 2 days for this to go away and called the doctor's office that prescribed this to me, and they said to stop taking it and take an antacid. I am on day 3 from stopping taking it and still have chest pains and difficulty swallowing, and it hurts very badly in the middle of my chest. I am shocked the doctor's office gave this to me with these horrible side effects. I read that there was a "possibility" of these side effects but have never had side effects from meds before. I will be going to my doctor tomorrow to see if there is anything else they can do to assist with these side effects. This is horrible. I had an allergic reaction to something and had hives and this is what they gave me. It is too severe to do me any good and this cure was far worse than the disease. I will never ever take this again.
