I am 20 years old. I have had a problem with swallowing food for 4 days now. I went into the ER two days ago and they said my vitals were okay.
I cant even swallow soup anymore without my esophagus and chest hurting. I also have stomach pain in my upper abdomen. Every time I go online it says it could be cancer...etc etc
I can't figure out what it is. I have also been taking Pepscid AC and tums, but they dont seem to help. I am going to go to the doctor Monday but I was just wondering what I should have them check for, and if I should wait until Monday or go this weekend back to the ER.

I hope that this response doesn't come to you too late, but I think that you should go back to the ER. If you are in a situation where your esophagus and your chest hurts, that is a serious issue, and they can at least prescribe you something to ease the pain. I hope that your visit to the doctor goes well, but I am a little surprised that they did not help you out a little more at the ER. Is it like a regular sore throat or does it actually hurt?

Please don't worry about the e-diagnosis of cancer. The internet always says you have cancer! Wait until you talk to your doctor. Until then, feel better. Let us know how the visit goes.

Hi:
You've probably been to the doctor by now. I'd like to hear what he/she says. It sounds like a reflux problem that has cause irritation in your esophagus and throat. You made a good choice to see a doctor right away. Remember that an ER, for most ailments, is a quick fix until you can get to your doctor. They see a lot of trauma, so people who can walk in, may not seem so critical. They get desensitized. A long time ago, I worked as an EMT in ER....that may be why you had your ER experience. Please let us know your diagnosis. Get your answers, keep asking if you don't get satisfaction today. Don't settle for feeling the way that you do. Let us know.

I'm also curious about the results of this... I have been on doxycline for almost 4 months now and last week I started getting symptoms of heart burn... then it just kept getting worse and have been in the same shoes. It hurt so bad to swallow anything including water, and even when I took a deep breath my chest just burned. I went to the ER on Friday (today is sunday) and they gave me the G cocktail along with a zantac and made me leave with sever pain still... Told me to follow up with my doctor... I am still in a lot of pain and I go tomorrow to see what needs to be done. I'm really curious if doxy is linked to this!

Now i have that problem too. And its my first time to be on doxy. First i started feeling a lump on my thoat and now its gone down to my upper chest and now lower chest. I havr stopped taking doxy 3 days ago thinking this could be the culprit. How long before its all gone back to normal? I cant breathe drink and eat properly without feeling any pain and why is doxy still in the market?
