can the use of clomid cause an ectopic pregnancy?

Hi, I had a dose of Clomid and had an ectopic pregnancy, I am not sure if clomid is the reason or not. My OBGYN tells me that is is not becos of clomid, but I feel doing things against nature will result in all these. I am still trying to get pregnant but no luck. Hopesfully someday I will get luckier.

I believe if you read the CPS or drug guide under Clomid....it states that there is a slightly higher chance of having an ectopic pregnancy. I am a little upset as well, I had a previous ectopic five years ago. They then put me on clomid...without telling me the risk of having another ectopic. The chances increase that much more on clomid. I had a tubal pregnancy a few weeks ago (the second time). They took my tube.

Weve been trying for two years. This last year on and off I was on clomid. Finally when I took 150Mg clomid on days 3 - 7 I conceived. I was 6 Weeks and 4 days and woke up bleeding but with no pain. Went to the ER and ran a bunch of tests and ultrasound and discovered I had an eptopic pregnancy on my right side. They had to do emergency surgery on me that day (two days ago) and I told my Dr my OBGYN had been giving my clomid to conceive and she was pretty angry. Said that while on clomid the OBGYN is supposed to constantly be giving ultrasounds to watch how the body is responding to the medicine and it should have been caught sooner to where they could give a pill to abort the baby. Instead they made four cuts into my belly to give me a ''medical abortion'' and I lost my right tube. I think it had to do with the clomid for sure considering pregnancies only have a 1-3 % chance of being eptopic.... My nurse said I still can get pregnant but I am scared to death to try again... I think I will try a different medicine and find a new OBGYN as well. Good luck everyone.

Yes Clomid will lead to Ectopic Pregnancy please do not consume Clomid. It is sold in different names. It is named as Clofert in India. Before Doctor puts you in Clomid she should explain its causes. Without knowing all this I took Clomid & now I did Laparotomy and removed my right tube due to Ectopic Pregnancy.

Umm. Sorry to say but every single one of these replies are incorrect. Clomid does not "cause" ectopic pregnancies it simply tricks the brain into thinking it has to keep maturing follicles instead of one dominant follicle. Yes, the chances of ectopic can be higher but that is because you are more likely to release multiple eggs rather than just one but this can happen with anything that hyperstimulates the ovaries including accupuncture. I have had 3 ectopic pregnancies and all of them from natural cycles, my son and only viable pregnancy was on a clomid cycle.

Thank you. I took Clomid and just found out I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and these other replies scared me to death. I am praying that this pregnancy is not eptopic. I read that the chance of ep on clomid was only 1.8% and the normal chances without drugs us 2%.

To be fair, I'm not sure that's it's proven that clomid CAUSES ectopic pregnancies...I had an ectopic and my well-informed doctor told me that it is not well known but there are ovulation problems, like Immature Follicle Syndrome, that when left untreated result in 66% abnormal pregnancies. It is possible that clomid did not fix this problem, which then resulted in another ectopic for you.

I am not sure whether clomid link with ectopic pregnancy or not but in my case it looks like. I took clomid in 2015 & had ectopic pregnancy in left tube and left tube was removed due to rupture. I got pregnant again naturally in 2016 without any dose of clomid and baby was in uterus but unfortunately i had miscarriage in 7 weeks. In 2017, Doctor given me clomid and i had ectopic pregnancy again in right tube and now right tube also removed after rupture. Seriously traumatic... Even doctor not sure about the reason.

I had a normal pregnancy with my first child. Wasn’t getting pregnant for second. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility. Went out on Clovis while waiting to do iIVF. I got pregnant on cloned my doctor was concerned because my progesterone was too high. Got pregnant on clomid, had an ectopic. My doctor, a highly regarded fertility specialist said it was do to clomid making my progesterone too high thus slowing the mobility of the eggs down causing it to get stuck in the tube. One you have one etopic your chances of having another increases. I had two more. That removed all my tubes do to the damage of an etopic. I wouldn’t believe big pharma saying clomid is not a risk of an etopic
