My 50 year old son has a compressed nerve in the L4 &L5 region of the spine. No medication dulls the pain. He is waiting for surgery. Can you suggest anything that might help the pain?

I had compressed nerve pain for 5 years. I had a L4-L5 discectomy, so now I'm healed.
I took 2 types of medication; neurontine 300 mg per day (up to 3000mg per day when I had servere pain) and dolcet (tramadol 50mg).
There are many painkillers, but neurontine was the best for me. Give it a try.
