ive been taking the pill for about 2 1/2 weeks now and ive lost about 6 pounds,
but i need the pill i have a script for it.
however i was talking to my doctor about the raid weight loss when using this drug,
he said it does but only because you take it and it gives you energy to move so if you take the pill and just sit around and do nothing
it does nothing for you and if you take the pill with out need for it
it also causes hair loss i have a friend whos 16 and shes been taking the pill unerscribed and has lost more hair then
ive ever seen before she looked like a cancer patient for a couple months and
its also a stimulint it makes u not hungry and for attention i take it cuz i need it for school,
to be honest id rather not take it i feel like a zombie on it i use to flip out alot and i got locked up in a psych ward
and they gave this to me and now im calm im never hyper and it rele makes me boring a couple of my friends evan said this to me and
im hoping to get off this c**p soon i hate it and if your tryna take it to loose weight lemme just let you
know thats not all thats guna hapn yeah;
youl loose weight but as soon as you get off the pill you gain it allllll right back and ive seen it happen my grama was on it for all her life was very skinni and slim and energetic and as soon as she didnt take it she gained 123 pounds thats 30 more pounds she was before she evan started.
its really no joke and if you dont get a script for it and you get caught with that sh*t your going to jail;
lmfao so just think about it before you go and do stupit sh*t like that
and thats my perspective on the drugg

I have been taking Concerta 18 mg for a month plus. The ability to focus on my work and my abilty to multitask without forgetting to complete a prior task has improved drastically. It's awesome and very much mentally uplifting. I am wonder if the weight loss side affect may in itself be a symptom of being so focused on completing tasks that one forgets to eat. I have been guilty of being so focused that I didn't realize how many hours have passed since I stopped working to take a break.

For those folks that do not wish to lose weight, perhaps scheduling yourself to eat something healthy every 3 hours would help stop the weight loss. Unfortunately or fortunately, everyone's body metabolizes differently so finding the right combination for you may take a little trial and error.

I have taken Concerta for a little over a year to treat my ADHD. Initially, I lost 8-10 pounds, but that goes away once your body becomes used to the drug. My appetite was suppressed at first, but it has returned with time. I would definitely NOT recommend taking this medication for weight loss. My blood pressure has spiked very high, to the point where my doctor is considering medication to treat that, even though I regularly work out and watch what I eat. I get up at 6:00 am every morning and work as a therapist with autistic children, so I am exhausted at the end of the day. However, Concerta still keeps me from getting something very important in the aid of weight loss and our overall well being: sleep. I still can't manage to fall asleep until around 1:00 am every night. So I average 5 hours of sleep now. The one major plus is that Concerta has helped saved my career by keeping me focused. So unless you have been tested for and diagnosed with ADHD, I would STAY AWAY.

I am on concerta and to tell you the truth all the side effects are a huge problem. Concerta makes you feel like you want to crawl up and die (no exaggeration), at least for me. For me, my friends notice when im on it becuase i am antisocial, and when people talk directly to me i cannot hear them becausei am in my own little world. I am constantly tired and dont want to move at all but i cant sleep, sometimes for days. Often i get fevers, the chills and nasea from the pill aswell. Also paranoia is a problem i face when taking it. But to answer your question, yes it does make you lose weight like crazy, i am ashamed to say thats why i am on it. But i am only taking it for weight loss because iv been taking it my whole life and was skinny up until last year when i stopped taking it, i think growing up on concerta really messed with my metabolism because i cannot stop eating when im not on concerta and my metabolism shuts down on me. I have to take it because i have to to be thin like I was... but i regret taking it while i was growing because it has stunted my growth and messed with my metabolism. My body has become chemically dependent on it which really isnt fun. As a 16 year old girl, i have body image issues now. Parents, i strongly advise you not to give your children ADHD pills while they are still growing, it messes with them. I am no expert but i have learned through experience, and also make SURE your children have ADD/ADHD before giving them medication. The thing about ADHD kids is that stimulants work the opposite way for us, they calm us down. Give your children coffee and see what happens. If they calm down, they probably have it, if they speed up then they probably dont. Your doctors probably wont tell you that but i have been doing alot of research and experiments on myself and friends and this is what i have found.

Concerta can help you lose weight but it not a catch all problem solver. If you have an eating problem (bingeing), it will not end that addiction. However there are a few things you definitely want to think about before considering concerta for weight loss. While some doctors will prescribe concerta TEMPORARILY for weight loss, it is NOT something that you would want to try to manage yourself. First of all, concerta is a controlled substance, that means that if you have it in your system or in your car or anywhere else and you get turned in or caught with it, you'll have a drug charge on your record. Second, the side effect of concerta ( especially if you don't have ADD/ADHD, are awful, you will constantly feel like you just chugged 10 cups of coffee. Not to mention if I take mine past about 10am, I cannot fall asleep. I've been known to be up for several days straight simply because I forgot to take my stupid meds til noon. Third, concerta supresses your appetite. it does not keep any extra calories that you eat from effecting you, and it does not change your habits. Losing weight by taking concerta is NOT healthy. You gain the weight back so so fast if you go off the meds and especially if your taking it for weight loss, you'll only be on it temporarily anyway. I weighted 120lbs when i was taking concerta. When i lost my medical coverage and couldn't afford my meds, I gained weight quickly and steadily. I am now heavier than I ever was before taking concerta. You build habits with a mindset that say "oh I haven't eaten all day, I can eat whatever I want for dinner) and pretty soon your eating whatever you want all the time. Concerta is absolutely not the answer if your looking to take off pounds and keep them off long term. Start going walking a few times a week. Stop snacking during the day, watch your carb intake, drink water instead of sugary drinks, and don't eat after 7pm. You'll lose weight. Might not be 10lbs in 3 weeks but it'll stay off. Starvation weight loss NEVER stays around and you'll end up weighing more than before.

I personally DO THINK that concerta will aid in losing weight. With that being said, Of course, no doctor will EVER prescribe it for that purpose. It is better to lose weight the natural way, because trust me, for every pound you may lose during Concerta therapy, two pounds will be gained back in half the time, when you stop treatment with this medicine.

I've used concerta on 4 different occasions and every time I've lost weight. It's an ADHD pill side effect. It happens with most ADHD pills. But it doesn't work on everyone and to the girl on 18mg when I first got put on it in 2nd grade I was on 30mg. 18 mg does nothing..

why is it that I'm taking concerta and, even thought in the first month I almost didnt eat at lunch (but then I ate so much in the evening), now I'm still always hungry as usual? (I'm 15, taking 36 mg for ADD, but I was hoping to loose weight too)

im on concerta, and the rapid weight loss isn't something to look forward to. It is not a dietary pill, it is for ADHD. If you are not diagnosed with the medication you can get very sick, and possibly get mild heart problems and high blood pressure. Because it keeps you awake and alert, as well as focused.

So whoever thinks that this pill is for making people skinny is totally wrong.

I am 21yrs old and significantly overweight. I am currently on Celexa for depression and Concerta for my ADD. I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was 14 and ADD when I was 18. It took a long time for the ADD diagnosis because I lack the hyperactivity that usually causes an earlier diagnosis of ADHD.. Celexa is a major appetite inducer. I am hungry all the time. I tried to switch to Welbutrin, with my doctors supervision of course, but it did not have the same mood leveling effects as Celexa. As far as Concerta goes, it should not be taken as a means to lose weight. It is a mild stimulant to help with focus, as those of us with ADD need. Side effects do include weight loss because the stimulant suppresses appetite, but this is not it's intended purpose and should not be taken solely for this as it also raises blood pressure, which can be dangerous if not watched closely. To lose weight, talk to your doctor about all the alternatives. They will know the safest and most affective route for you.

What's amazing is that the discussion of this drug on this thread began in 06' and i still going on. I suppose that the original writer of the post will most likely not read these replies. That being said, I wish to comment about Concerta as I take it. I was diagnosed with ADD, Adult Attention Deficit Disorder in 2006. I knew there was a problem as I was having social problems at work, and my evaluations commonly mentioned problems with organization and follow through. I am not lazy, far from it, always on the go and taking on new tasks and projects with reckless abandon. I found however that I tried to do so many things but never finished anything, I relentlessly attacked multiple goals but was always frustratred by my inability to complete them. I was given a very poor evaluation in the last part of 2006 in June. I decided to get an evaluation by a neuroligist. I had blood work done and underwent physical evaluation. He recommended a psychiatirst, not because he thought I was crazy or unstable but because he wanted me to be monitored while while I began taking Concerta. I started Concerted in December of 2006. I weighed 165 pounds. I had immediate results. I remember looking at my desk with fright and disgust. How could I be so disorganized? I was able to go through papers that were years old, file them, throw them away, or simply handle them with a signature or a reply. I put pencils and paperclips in their place, I made lists and prioritized. I was socially aware. I didn't interrupt or become frustrated, I was polite and controlled. I gained friends, colleagues saw my improvement, I was applauded with awards for service and given raises and promotions. I noticed early on my appetite was gone. I was not worried about it since I ate small amounts. I was focused on work and on achievement. After three months I dropped 20 lbs, and was in the 140's, looking like I did when I was in my 20's, and I was happy about that. I continued to do my everyday routine, not being able to afford a whole new wardrobe due to weight loss, I pinned my pants. After four months, sometime in the spring, I took all of my pants to the cleaners, and they measured me to take them all in. Pants that were a size 12 were made into a size 6. I was overjoyed! Then by summer, I recall sitting with my mom, and she asked me how I felt. I told her I was tired. I slept constantly when not at work, and I had headaches. I was weak. I could no longer throw a frizbee on the beach, my shoulder was in pain, I could not run or do the exercise I loved doing more than ever. She asked me how much I weighed. I told her the truth, that i had not stood on a scale in three months. She tooked me by the hand and like a mother would, she guided me to the scale and made me weigh myself. I was 112 pounds. and I looked into the mirror. My face was drawn, like a skeleton with skin. My lips were thin and pale. My skin sagged over my shoulders and my normally strong body looked like that of a malnourished child, my ribs were protruding, and could be counted from the front and back. She asked me if I had a drug problem. It was a sincere and serious question. I told her no. I was telling the truth. I did not know that Concerta was causing me to lose the weight. I went to my doctor again, who saw me after four months and he was horrified. I was admitted to the hospital suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and a heart arythmia. My ekg revealed my heart beat was irregular. I was taken off Concerta, treated and released after a few days. I had lost 53 pounds in six months. I had tremendous success at work and was "skinny" but I sacrificed health and well-being. At what cost? Today, five years later I am still working at my job. I learned some great organization methods while taking Concerta that I use and they helped me to be effective. I have gained back some weight, weighing 138 pounds which is a normal healthy weight for a woman of 46. I have energy and feel great. I thought about going back on Concerta, to help me with organization and dealing with stressfull situations where I need to do multiple tasks, but I would most likely need a lower dose. I would not want to ever look like I did or feel like I did. If anyone has any comments please feel free to add them.
