Don't listen to that "gaudino" guy he doesn’t really know what he is talking about. I am a patient who is prescribed concerta for ADD, and while he is correct that it is most commonly used to treat ADD, he is wrong about pretty much everything else. Concerta has been used to treat the obese, but I doubt you will get a perception if your are just wanting to lose 5 pounds. This is because one of the side effects is "loss of appetite", I know It will work because I have used it as a diet pill in the past. Be careful not to overdo it though, you won’t die or anything, just don’t go anorexic on us it’s not healthy. As for the rest of the side effects, the most common are raised blood pressure(which you won’t concisely notice) , loss of appetite and insomnia( it keeps you up so take it in the am if you plan to sleep in the PM). The rest are not common. Many of my friends have tried this medication without experiencing the other side effects. The reason so many are listed is because the government requires companies to list all side effects in a drug study, even if only one person reports it. and no, you will not get addicted or anything. gaudino probably meant well but I’m guessing he/she got most of their info from reading not actual experience.

I don't have ADD and take about four 54mg concerta a day. It helps me with cleaning, school work and being awake. Without it I have no energy at all. I barely eat so about every 3 days ill eat a meal and then go another 3 days without eating. I don't have an apatite. I go to the gym but my heart rate gets so bad that I have to stop. But yeah, it does make you lose weight cause all you do is drink water and it makes you have to use to bathroom.

I lost significant amount of weight while on Concerta…I was skinny to start with… I looked like I was anorexic. It was hard to eat because it suppressed my appetite.  When I ate, I would immediately 'let go' of everything by having to go to the washroom (too much info)… but I'm trying to educate. I don't recommend Concerta… I really don't…unless you are really depressed or unmotivated, and "ADHD" -ADD and ADHD are fake names for other conditions that result in lack of attention. Although Concerta helped me fight my depression and lack of motivation… I haven't touched it in 5 or so years and haven't gained back the weight … it is horrible, I have lost so much weight in my face… I used to be beautiful and now my face doesn't have any cheek fat at all. no matter how much I eat I can't gain weight.

this is probably a bit late but seriously, eat a clean diet and excersise, don't go on a diet, make a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Concerta's active ingredient is methylphenidate which stimulates the pre frontal cortex of the brain which in people with ADD/ADHD, is somewhat asleep. Since the pre frontal cortex in normal people is already at a normal level of stimulation, abuse of concerta can be quite damaging. It does usually suppress the appetite greatly but it's not worth it if you don't need it.

Hi, I'm 22 and I'm literally on the highest amount you can get (54mg) and when I first got prescribed concerta I did lose about 15-20 pounds! And I mean FAST! In about a months time! You have to understand that your body will get accustomed to the dosage and you'll keep having to increase until you've plateaued. I know of docs who will prescribe these to aid in weight loss but I highly recommend going to your doctor and talking to him/her about your options. Someone who wouldn't benefit from the control of the ADD/ADHD part of the drug could experience nasty side effects (paranoia, anxiety, muscle spasms etc.)

I am on Concerta for my ADHD, Depression and anxiety, I have no side effects and in a good routine to eat 3 healthy meals a day (even when i am not hungry) I have done a lot of research around Concerta and so forth. You have all the side effects of an addict my dear, and I strongly suggest you look for other ways to loose weight and get help while you are young. Good Luck

I am exactly the same. I became anorexic when I got off concerta because I gained weight so fast when I was off of it. It ruined my metabolism too or at least it made it faster.

You're right about some of the side effects. But the thing wrong about is the way it reacts when you stop taking the Concerta. I am 19 and I have taking Concerta for 10 years I stop taking it once I got to high school. I ended up gaining 50 pounds after I stopped taking it. When taking It you will see change in your appetite make you less hungry make you agitated a little bit more and maybe a little sensitive to stupid things since college I have recently got back on my concert due to my educational purposes. I have noticed a weight change extremely since I've been on it the first four weeks of college I lost 15 pounds and that every week I lose a little bit more now it does make me depressed sometimes and like I said agitated at little things but you could always try it, but if you decide to try it and it doesn't do anything you should ease off the drug slowly.
