I'm a sixteen year old girl who's being bothered by a potentially serious issue. I have been sexually active for about a year now. I've had four sexual partners. Three in the last year and one this year. I haven't had sex in two months,or more. I have been having constant brown discharge all through the month, sudden but not frequent abdominal pain, vulva itching and dryness after my periods. I get a lot of migraines accompanied by nausea. Some say this is due to pregnancy... I can't really talk to my parents about this nor my doctor because he's a family friend. I'm in perfect shape... I don't seem to have a bun in the oven but this is scarying me

Did you find out what this was? I've had similar symptoms, minus the abdominal pain/migraines/nausea, but plus frequent periods. Also, my itching has been vaginal accompanied by what looks like a small rash. The constant brown smelly discharge is the same. I suspect HPV but don't really know for sure... will find out when I visit my doctor next week.

P.S. Were you practicing safe sex? Also, your doctor should honor doctor-patient confidentiality, but if you're uncomfortable about it then you should request a different doctor. It's important to find someone to talk to about this and get it checked out.

Ok, this is a follow-up from my posts on 3/22/11. I heard back from my doctor today and they confirmed that I indeed tested positive for HPV, and also for ASCUS (Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance). They tell me this is very common in sexually active adults (~50% infected). However, most of the HPV strains they test for are the "high risk" strains, which mean they can lead to cervical cancer in women. As a result you should BE SURE to get regular pap smears so your doctor can detect any abnormal cell growth.

Not that you should hesitate to get it checked out, but one positive thing they said is that many people's bodies eventually reject the HPV virus, and your chances are higher of this happening if you're under 30. For me they're scheduling a colposcopy to try and do a closer examination of the abnormal cells. Oh, and as for the rash I mentioned - they didn't think it was related to warts, just irritation.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
