I did respond to another post, but my diagnois was DVT and I too have only 1/2 of the Factor V Leiden.
I am a 55 yr. old femal and yes, I know I have gained weight, I'm guessing 5-8 lbs.
As I stated before, I was a former marathon runner, eat healthy and have not had any weight change in over 6 years. Prior to that, my weight was less with running. I so want off this drug too. I knew that it had to be the drug, so I googled weight gain and coumadine...Found all of you.
My question to you, is are you off of the drug now? Did you find anything that works? Or are you still taking classes?
I had to cut out all my daily supplements when I was first diagnoised...I first thought that was the reason. The Dr. assured me I was fine...I now know differently. I just wrote down a natural herb that Dr.Oz show had mentioned. I'm thinking, I am going to give this a whirl when I am hopefully taken off the drug in the next2-6 weeks....I hope I don't "puff up" any more. I hate this feeling of "GROSS". To those of you who haven't experienced this, your lucky.

I will be on coumadin for life. I have the disorder Leiden Factor 5 which causes the body to clot faster. I, too, was proud of my body and worked to keep it in decent shape. I have a great family (two of my sons also have the disorder) that understands, supports me, and is grateful just to have me alive. So the extra 30 pounds in my midsection is something I guess I need to deal with.

I began using Coumadin in September of 2012 and am currently still on the medication for suffering from PE (Pulmonary Embolism) in both my lungs. I am 22 years old, prior had been living a healthy lifestyle, been going to the gym on a regular basis. However, I now am so fatigued, gained 25pounds, depressed, and unable to live like I did before. I am riddled by headaches, and constantly taking naps. I believe the medication is the reason behind me feeling so ill. The weight will not come off, I've tried working out, eating better nothing works. I am a 22 year old woman, feeling as though I am 80 years old.

I been on coumadin for 3 months now. I am really frustrated because I feel that I am bloated and puffy all the time. My belly has increase more than ever. I am not as active nor do I eat allot of sweets. I have gain at least 15 lbs since I been on this Medication. there has to be a link between the coumadin and the weight gain. I have taken vitamins to get some kind of energy, However, that interfere with my INR levels and had to stop them. I have very little energy to do anything. :'(

Me too. I am nine months in and 15 lbs heavier. Puffy and I have never had a stomache but all of a sudden I have a Belly. I am praying this clot disolves and I can get off this stuff for good. God help us all. Try to stay encouraged.

hi all-like 99% of you,i have a clot in left leg,on warfarin 6 mths, now i'm now a bloated fatty,my expensive cycling gear doesn't fit any more-which is not right, becaude like a lot of you guys i'm a trainer-mtb,karate,squash,running, These quaks are just fobbing us off, their duty as they see it is to keep us alive, not care about quality of life or us getting fat. They are the ones in denial, not us. I've come accross a website by a guy named Gary Moller,he loathes the rat poison and recommends vitimin E as an alternative. Worth a shot-I'm sick of carrying 50 spare pounds on bike races. Good luck all of you.

I myself have noticed a considerable amount of weight gain since being on the drug coumadin , just as you commented earlier my pcp told me not to worry about it. after a year on coumadin i have gained 31 lbs. along with swelling and lack of mobility and shortness of breath . I know I eat right and get plenty of excercise but nothing seems to work. How can I fight the weight gain ? i'm seriously thinking about taking natural alternative blood thinners.

I tore some ligaments in my ankle back in January. Then, I flew to Seattle the first week of February and I was still on crutches. I was already needing to lose a significant amount of weight, and hurt myself while exercising. So, since I found myself on crutches, I reduced my calories significantly and did as much activity as I could. My blood clot was diagnosed the first week of March and I was ordered to bed rest, and I was STILL losing weight because of the calorie restricted diet. Now, the doctor says "lose weight" (well... I was trying!). I've been doing at least one hour of exercise daily, as well as walking around campus to classes and logging my calories on MyFitnessPal. I've gained 10 lbs. I was so discouraged before I found all of you!

I started taking coumadin after DVT and PE Jan 1 2013 I have ended up putting on 30+ lbs in the 5 months I have been taking in, and im so tired all the time. I play softball and do the Insanity workout 6 days a week and I am still gaining weight with every Dr visit. The Dr stated Ill be off the meds in June I hope and pray that all gets back to normal and I start to lose the weight. Its so very depressing!

I am 52year old female, I was diagnosed with a DVT and PE and subsequently was put on Coumadin. Since then I have put on 37pounds in 5 months. I am doing nothing different with my diet or lifestyle which is fairly active. I was so pleased to find this site and find that a lot of other people had the same side effect as me. It makes me depressed to have to wear size 18clothes instead of my normal 12 to 14. I have one more month of being on Coumadin so I hopefully will be able to lose the weight that I have put on.
Has anyone lost the weight gain after coming off the Coumadin?

I recently underwent weight loss surgery. I developed a blood clot as a result of the surgery, which was not diagnosed until a month later, and I was placed on Warfarin to treat the clot. Prior to Warfarin, I had dropped 47 pounds. After Warfarin, I stalled all weight loss for a month. My INR will not increase well and my doctor has not been monitoring it, and during this time, I dropped another 15 pounds. As my INR keeps getting lower, the Warfarin has been increased. Once again, weight loss has stalled. I eat less than 1000 calories a day, I exercise 5 times a week, I don't snack, eat limited carbs, and drink between 1-2 litres of water a day. You can tell me it's lethargy, or something I'm doing, but once is a coincidence and twice is a pattern.

In my experience Warfarin does cause weight gain. In fact, I eat less and much healthier than before I was on it and yet my body has changed significantly. I have definitely gained weight where as before my weight always stayed within five pounds. I havent become flabby at all but instead become puffy. Everything, my limbs, torso and face have puffed out more and more over the 7 years since I was first on it. Also on my warfarin bottle, the main word it lists is sodium. It has certainly caused me to pack on an uncomfortable amount of water weight and nothing I do changes it at all. I have exercised like crazy and not even notice any change. Their is definitely a link between Warfarin and weight gain unfortunately. Very unfortunate for people that have to be on it long term.
