Oh man, so happy I'm not alone on this peculiar issue! I started getting this little cyst about an inch above my clitoris (thankfully never on it, I feel for you ladies!!) when I was 17. I had never had sex so I knew it wasn't an STD-related issue, so I went to the gyno and after inspection she said that it looked like a clogged gland, and that this can happen from sweating too much or clothes being really tight in the area (since it's nowhere near any hairs), or any number of things. She lanced it and holy SH*T did that hurt! But it drained and went away for a good couple months. After she lanced it, it left a bit of scar tissue. She told me to do the hot compress and a hot bath at least once a day, twice if possible. She said to gently squeeze it if it looks like it's about to pop, but not to pick at it. This has usually worked for me, except that due to the the scar tissue, it gets a little bit bigger every time I get it, but it seems to come less often these days. I get it sporadically, it seems there's a general correlation between when it arises and when I get my period, maybe from wearing pads. It is definitely an awkward conversation to have with my current boyfriend at first, as I had to assure him that it was not STD related, and that...well, it's normal for some of us, so chill! Currently have it right now and am hot compressing the hell out of it, as it is tender and uncomfortable when my clothes touch it a certain way. If it's anything like what I have, it should be gone in a few days, just keep up the good fight and keep it "aired out" down there my friends!

I have one on the left side of my clitoris as well! It started off the size of a small pea, now It's almost as big as a marble. I've had one before, but it popped within 2 days and wasn't as big. I've had this one for a week now and it won't even come to a head. It's becoming unbearable.:( I've tried squeezing it a few times, so maybe that's why its gotten so big and feeling badly bruised. I'm thankful to see that I'm not the only one with this evil issue! :(

I have exactly what the first poster described: a hard lump right inside/to the left of my clitoral hood, under the skin, which quickly increases in size from a pea-sized knot to a large grape-sized lump.  I started getting them when I was 20, and the cyst recurs in the exact same place (4 times now, I'm currently 23).  I have been to my gyno each time it has happened, and the first two treatments involved lancing.  My doctor numbed the area with 3 shots, which was the most pain I've ever experienced in my life, as the needle has to penetrate the nerves surrounding the clitoris.  Once numbed, the doctor expressed the cyst until what she thought was a good "core" came out.  I was prescribed a strong antibiotic (to which I had a SEVERE allergic reaction), topical numbing ointment, and oral pain medication.  I thought I'd never have to deal with it again, but about 2 years later I went through the same process.  The 3rd time this happened (1 month later), my doctor sent me for a 2nd opinion to another gyno.  He didn't do anything but look at it, say something about how unfavorable an option surgery was, and write prescriptions for additional antibiotics.  With this prescription regimen I was taking about 12 pills a day- which affects your sleep, energy, appetite, and mood drastically.  One antibiotic was taken 4 times a day, another was taken 2 times a day, a 3rd was taken every other day, a 4th was prescribed to be taken 2 times a day as a precaution to prevent a yeast infection, and on top of all of that a daily probiotic was recommended to keep my digestive system intact while I took all of these antibiotics.  Throw in a pain medication and daily birth control and I was really sick of all of it.  Not to mention embarrassed to have to keep being seen for the exact same problem!  I was also left believing that by prescribing ALL of the different antibiotics it meant that they didn't know what caused it or what to treat, so their approach was to treat everything imaginable.  I was sent home with all my pills and told to wait on it to pop itself, which it did, and was disgusting to clean up.  The cyst had grown large enough that even a breeze in the area felt awful, much less underwear or a liner.

I'm currently suffering through another one.  This time I've tried to "tough it out" and wait to see if it would drain naturally without the expensive doctor visit.  After 5 days of growth the cyst is approximately the size of a quarter, but elongated along the length of my left labia, and the entire left side of my anatomy "down there" has swollen with it.  After shuffling to class to take a test and spending a few hours at my biolab job, I couldn't take it anymore and went home to soak in warm water.  I could tell that all the physical activity of the day (awkwardly walking all over campus and at work) had made the cyst more red in color, swollen, tender, and develop a dark-red-colored head (in the location of the former lancing scars).  I soaked in just hot water for about 2.5 hours thinking the head would dissolve and open, but it ended up needing some pressure and a slight scrub from a tissue.  I was able to express the cyst and drain the fluid, which was a mixture of very light green (disgusting, I'm sorry) thick fluid and blood.  After a few minutes of trying, all that was left was light-pink, clear fluid.  Pressure in the area was drastically relieved following the draining, but tenderness in the area is taking longer to dissipate.  Underwear are out of the question, so for coverage I resorted to a round cotton face pad with a dab of triple antibiotic ointment secured with a large bandaid, which is working much better and more comfortably than I assumed it would.  Normal gait is not yet possible, though.

I wish my doctor could give me a name for it.  Or a diet/hygiene regimen/clothing material restriction/medication to actually prevent it.  I'm not sure if it helps to know, but for anyone looking for similarities in other cyst-sufferers, I am: in my early 20's, have a cyst recurring in the same exact location at irregular intervals, have eczema (mostly on arms and legs), very mild acne (usually the week before my cycle, little to no breakouts otherwise), an allergy to aspartame and sulfur-containing drugs, I am physically fit, I eat correctly enough, exercise when possible, have proper hygiene practices, and do not regularly wear tight clothing if I can help it.

I know this has been lengthy, but this is the first time I've resorted to internet counsel for this problem.  While I'm glad to know I'm not alone, my heart goes out to anyone dealing with this, and I wish it on no one.  No one should have to sit on the side of the bathtub and do to themselves what I've had to do today, and may have to do in the future, to feel relief.  I'm hoping more information comes along, and with luck, a damn fix!  Good luck, ladies.

Hi ladies! I've had a pea sized cyst on interior clitoral hood. I left it alone until it became painful at which point I applied a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel a few times an hour. This seemed to draw it to a head almost immediately and popped on its own. Drained some blood and now feels fine. I've continued to apply the witch hazel as it seems to help with any pain and also to keep the area clean. Hope this might help someone. To me the witch hazel was the key!!

I suppose this is what I have, but I'm not too sure yet. 5 days ago I noticed a tiny hard little bump on the left side of my labial region? Near my clitoris.. ugly word. Anyway. I thought it to be a pimple, I do sometimes get those around there, especially before my menstrual cycle. I went on a trip home and a day later the entire left side of my vulva(?) was swollen and inflamed. The hard little bump had surfaced to the top of my skin and was now the size of a pea, face size of about a dime or so. It was so hard to walk, to not cringe around the family I was visiting, and to use toilet paper, ow ow ow. I asked my mom about it, and she suggested an ingrown hair. But no no no, not that close, not remotely possible. Definitely no hair there. So I looked it up, and it seems it's a sebaceous cyst. I've ruled out that Bartholin cyst that's lower near the opening of the vagina, those things are naaassttyyy gross. So I was so swollen by the 3rd night that I looked for any sign of relief but was a bit afraid to try anything too drastic, and no way with all the inflammation was popping it an option. To bring down the size and pain I sat in a hot as I could handle bath, then kept a hot washcloth on it, which was a pain because it hurt so bad. Do not try scrubbing or poking, and don't mess with it too much, because day four, the swelling went down, but the aching went up, and it has turned purple. It's very irritated, and very red right around it. I've used a mirror and kept checking up on it. It's day 5 now, it's not as hard as a rock anymore, it's almost the texture of a smooshed pea under several layers of skin and seems to move around a bit under the layers. I plan to go to the doctor to double check, if nothing else. It's the first time I've ever had one, and I'm hoping that if I make the right choices and either treat it right or remove it, it'll be the last. I don't know what other things may be involved in the cause of these cysts, but I do know that I am 19, sexually active, a week from my period, have a head cold and ear infection at the moment, and have been super stressed lately. No idea yet.

I think I have the same thing. I was pretty scared. I checked to see what it was, but i couldn't really see a pimple or a cyst. However, my clitoral hood was extremely itchy at first. The next day, it's pretty red and swollen. As the days went on, it became unbearable to sit, sleep, and walk. My labia and vagina feel normal, it's just the upper area of the vulva that hurts like hell. I took an epsom salt bath, but what really helped it 'pop' was putting a hot water bag on the area. I DON'T HAVE TO WALK LIKE A PENGUIN ANY MORE. If you don't have a water bag try a hot wash cloth and keep at it.

I have just delt with this issue, It all started about 6 days ago when I noticed my left side of my clitorus was swollen. The next day it started to form a bump and was sensitive to the touch. It stayed this way till about the 5th day. On the 5th day it was really irratated and was noticably larger with a more defined red/ purple bump the size of a dime. On the 6th day of this ordeal It was extreamly painful to sit, stand, walk EVEN sleep! I took alot of epsom salt baths, and massaged the area around my vagina and inner leg, hoping it would get the glands moving around the clitorus. I layed in bed all day and by night the cyst FINALLY started to drain a creamy bloody fluid. Today it is a bit sore but nothing like before and im pretty sure I will make a full recovery. Hope this helps anyone who is going through this awful experiance that can be quite scary!

I have this same problem, and I have no idea what causes mine. At first I thought it was a result from an infected ingrown toenail, but I don't have that now, and I just got my third. I'm 16, and have nooooo sex life at all, and I'm not doing any sports, unless a laid back gym class counts. My cysts last 5-6 days, and on the 4th day, I can barely sit. On the last day, or next to last day, I can barely walk, and it really freaking hurts. I would like to know if there is a way to get rid of the cyst while it's still small and relativly painless. Mostly because I really can't miss any school, and I don't want to be in that much pain ever again. Please, Im having this problem right now, and any help would be awesome. :)

You have no idea how relieved I am to know I'm not at all alone in this. I have one that has only flared up for the 2nd time in my life. It's also right next to my clitoris and is incredibly painful. My husband and I went on a getaway for my birthday (returning yesterday) and mine has flared up like never before. My guess would be the hot tub did me in. Regardless, a bath seemed to help a bit, but the neosporin I tried certainly felt like it had made a difference when I woke up this morning. I'd like to know the cause myself, but just to know that I'm not the only person with this painful prooblem is good enough for me at this point. Thanks all

I thought my clitoris was going to explode and the pain wouldn't go away with pharmacy pain cream or antibiotics. Finally in desperation I used anbesol/bonjela (baby teething ointment) and magnesium sulfate. It drained within a few hours.

I've been getting this several times over and over. I have it now and it's been 2 week's that I've had it and it's really sore and tender. It's marble size, swollen and red. I work out daily and me and my boyfriend are very sexually active if not everyday. Since I've had this those it's embarrassing and I've only had sex with him 2x. I wasn't sure if it was a std but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the issue. I'm just nervous to go to the doctor.
