I (42F) got a cyst above my clitoris (under the clitoral hood) about four years ago. It did come to a head and pop thanks to antibiotics and many sitz baths - but I didn't get much help from my doctor/experts and it did take a couple more months to finally heal. Since then it has tried to come back - and in the past year it did reoccur in the same spot twice more. Again, I got on the antibiotics fast and the sitz baths - both popped within about a week and healed much faster than before. So, I have some questions for you ladies...
I find that it is always lurking - right now I've got a tiny bit of swelling along the line above my clitoris in the clitoral hood. I think that i might have aggravated things thanks to a hike I did the other weekend. I feel that it might eventually develop into a full blown cyst or might go away. Do any of you have experience with making one that is starting go away and not turn into an abscess?
Anyone find that Hidradenitis Suppurativa is what you have?
Anyone find that losing weight / adjusting diet work in stopping the cyst from recoccuring?
Glad to hear I'm not the only one dealing with this...

I am currently experiencing the same thing. First occurance at 17 (I suspect it resulted from a boy pressing to hard in the region), I didn't have a backbone to say it hurt me. Second at 27. Third at 30, fourth at 32, happening more frequently. When it does happen, I just cry all day bc it's uncomfortable. I was diagnosed w a clitoral hood cyst. I've used warm wash clothes, it lasts 2-3 weeks.

A clitoral hood cyst is mostly likely from trauma from what I've read. My first occurance was at 17, it happened days after a boy pressed really hard there for a long time and I was too young to tell him that it hurt. I was in a foreign country & I didn't want to tell my mom bc I was scared she'd beat me. I suffered for one month, I returned to USA and the PA was of no help. She thought it was herpes, later in my 20's, diagnoses for clitoral hood cyst. I've seen many doctors and they are of no help. The instructions are to use a warm/hot washcloth. My cyst is the size of a small grape, red, hardened, sensitive to movement or friction. Located underneath clitoris. My clitoris is essentially the small grape I'm describing. I cry all day when this occurs because it makes me so sad and helpless. It's very uncomfortable. I'm sorry ladies.

This is so stressful. I believe we all have what seems to be a hardened, red, swollen (size small grape) clit. After 15 years and 5+ doctors, i did my own research to think that maybe it was a cyst. Finally at 30, I was diagnosed with a clitoral cyst only because I mentioned it. Nobody had a clue for all those years. I'm now 32 and it's happened again and I get the same reoccurring feelings (depression, sadness, crying all day, anti-social). The doc says to put a hot washcloth to it. I want to know what triggers it? Hormones, friction, trauma, sex? No clue. This sucks and I hate knowing I'll have to deal with this for 2-3 weeks because I won't be given treatment. My next option is a plastic surgeon or urology department.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I've been a sufferer of this clitoral abcess for 15 years (total four times). First time was the worst @ 17 years old. I've discovered some tricks to help, beginning symptoms are itchiness or small pea size bump. Apply epsom salt warm compress as often as possible in the day. Heat up a tea kettle and put in bowl with a mixture of cool water to get a above warm temperature (you'll want to see some steam) or invest in a towel cabby (spa towel cabby), mix with epsom salts. Change towels frequently and wash with hot water. If it is bacteria, green in color, be mindful of spreading infection. In addition, don't pop, squeeze because the bacteria will further spread the infection deeper. The warm epsom compress will bring infection to the surface, forcing it to extract on its own. This time, only lasted me 3 days.
I personally think this is caused from trauma or unexperienced, unhygieic sexual practices from teen years. Now I feel that we are prone to infection and reoccuring abcess/soft tissue cyst. Good luck!

Hi ladies,
So I have been experiencing this bartholin/clitoral cysts for almost 7 years, I'm now 26 as of three days ago, I just had my 5th surgery done two days ago, the first time I had this I was 19 and was totally terrified and embarrassed of course..and was admitted to the hospital and was put out to have it lanced. Each time since then about a year to two years apart I try to catch it sooner and sooner but always ends up with having it lanced. What I usually do at the VERY first signs of it is call my OBGYN and have them send over the normal antibiotic treatment because each time they take a culture and it's been different each time. The most common is STREP B so I usually am prescribed a clindamyacin or "Bactrum" to try and stop the abscess from fully forming. Unfortunately this time I was too late and had to have it lanced once again....my concern is...do we really have to live like this for the rest of our lives? Will I eventually lose all the feeling in my clitoris to feel stimulated because of too much scar tissue? I wish someone had the answers for us. Because this is no way to live or be happy and healthy.
Sincerely, frustrated in maine

Sit for ten minutes in the shower tray in a round washing up bowl full of hot salty water, swirl the water around you. Three times a day really helps and you can use the time to put your makeup on/take it off etc so as not to waste too much time in your daily routine.

It's taken 15 years for me to get a proper diagnosis. I've been treated incorrectly for all manner of things such as cystitis and just bunged a load of antibiotics, which have helped. Yes, it always comes back and I have to be careful not to wear tight trousers or to sit for too long - any restriction or friction will kick it off.
From reading all these posts I feel there are two lots of symptoms going on here. My problem Is a swelling which seems to be in/behind the clitoris itself, and also along the 'line' mentioned in the above post, where it seems to back up like a blocked drain! What my gynaecologist told me is that there is a tiny duct, (which not many people know about) which is supposed to be able to drain naturally, but in my case doesn't, because it is hidden, or covered over by extra skin. Surgery is a possibility but he assures me it often grows over again so it's a lot of trauma for a waste of time.
The first symptoms are itching, and feeling as though I am being pinched. It very quickly swells up and will become the archetypal, excruciatingly painful 'grape' if not dealt with quickly. I have learned to gently and carefully express it - the resulting fluid is clearish and very pungent. There is no pus as such and this is stage one of healing.
Hot salty sitz baths are a must immediately, 3 times a day for at least 10 minutes a time. I find this usually works in a day or two and do not normally need antibiotics. My gynaecologist has also prescribed an oestrogen cream to help keep the skin healthier and softer as I'm post menopausal - it has helped to a degree I've been using it daily for three months but now only supposed to use it twice a week.
I hope all the aforementioned will be of help to some of you out there. This condition is no fun!

Honestly it'll feel 10 better once you start to drain it. I swear I couldn't sit down or move without it hurting. I got irritated wit it and decided to sit over the toilet and just squeeze it and just like that the pain was relieved.

Literally all i did for mine was squeeze them til thy went away. Right beside my clit on the left side especially after sex. After being pregnant it came out of nowhere, went away after messing with it. It won't kill yoy to squeeze it away. I always do. But be sure first we are all different.

I am 57 and I think I had my first one of these when I was 20 ? I haven’t had any since I was about 50. In retrospect - I think it is hormone related. NO doctor ever ever really knew what it was & many tried ALOT of different treatments. None worked. Staying in a blazing hot bath night & day - I even slept there many times - until it swelled to the point of busting. But after I started menopause - it all stopped. I’ve always been muscular & a little hair on my chin & stomach when I was younger. Which I believe was an indication of a higher testosterone level than most women have. I always had a very high libido. So looking back - I honestly think that being arroused frequently with no opening there such as men have, becomes an increasing tiny collection until it then becomes infected. NOW THIS IS JUST MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND OPINION. I don’t know how to tell anyone how to make that better - if I’m right. But - if I’m right - the suggestion to your Dr of a possible higher testosterone, might help them look in the right direction. I hope I didn’t offend anyone. This was a very transparent sharing of a part of my medical life that I have never shared w anyone.

A bartholin cyst is a cyst that grows inside or around the vagina hole ... the cyst all the previous ladies are talking about is near the clitoris which doctors specialist or even gynos cannot medically name.

Hi, I get these occasionally. I use a tea bag as a compress. I’ve used nettle tea, comfrey tea, oregano, green, and even peppermint. I keep warm water near and dip the tea bag in, then put in on my labia over the cyst. Great while relaxing watching tv or listening to music/radio etc. it really helps relieve pain and quicken healing.
