cyst on lower spine

A cyst on the lower spine appeared on my 25-year old daughter overnight. I can't tell if it is direct from the spine or if it is just under the skin because it is too painful when touched. It only protrudes when she bends not when standing. There is no skin discoloration. She will be seeing her doctor, but in the meantime is it possible to tell what kind of cyst it is from my description and treatments for these type of cyst.
