My 14 month old is being tested for CMV. He had petichiea at birth, but no other symptoms. He has been diagnosed with a speech delay and is being tested for possible hearing loss as well. Since he's older than 3 weeks, they can't diagnose whether CMV (if he's positive) is congenital or not. I'm trying to find out how often an infant is born with cCMV but only has 1 symptom present. Even if he tests positive, will it mean anything?

Petechial rash, speech delay and hearing loss are all signs of CMV infection. Mental retardation and other developmental problems are often not recognized until later in life.
