I, too, have put on a lot of weight really fast on Forteo. Feel miserable. When I asked the nurse if this was a side effect, her response was Oh yeahow!

I started the Forteo injections August, 2016. I weighed roughly 128 lbs. Now, 6 months later I weighed today at the Dr office and I weigh 154.8 lbs!! My stomach, thighs, arms and rear have excess fat and I hate it. I was in size 4 jeans now I am in 11/12. My bone density is alot better and hope to have a total knee replacement in the next couple of months and good-bye Forteo... I just hope I can lose this unwanted fat as fast as I put in on.
Good luck to everyone and God bless.

Yes, I have gained weight on Forteo. I am in 13 months of treatment. The extra weight is around my stomach, hips and thighs. As you all know, it is very depressing. I walk and try to watch what I eat. Right now my weight is 165 lbs. up from 140 lbs. I have to really fight to keep it from tipping over the 170 mark...I'm losing the fight. I also have hypothyroidism (which has been diagnosed in the last year) so I'm tired and fat.

Forteo can be the only source of my weight gain. I have been taking shots for about three weeks and have gained six pounds. My rheumatologist and pharmacist have pretty much blown me off about it. My rheumatologist said even one month would be beneficial. I've got a week to consider whether to continue or not.

Hi, may I know if you stopped Forteo after one month then? Just wondering if taking it for one month would be beneficial enough. Doc injected Prolia last month and this month recommended Forteo on top of it which he said would have better results.
Do you know if additional drugs need to be taken after one month to maintain the benefits?

I have been on Forteo for 2 months and I gained weight in the belly area and legs. I eat very healthy and this came out of the blue.

I have not experience a major weight gain but have lost and gained at least 5 lbs and yes my waist has definitely enlarged. I do work outs 5 days a week. I have always been thin and at least could lose weight if I excercised more. Now nothing helps.

Me too! I started Forteo in Oct of 2016 and I have gained a good 10-15 lbs. I eat really-really well & exercise daily, running 5 miles and doing pliometric workouts. I can't seem to budge the weight gain no matter what. I now run 20-26 miles a week and still no change. I am very frustrated, but am trying to see the bigger picture. Don't want to stop the treatment, but don't want to gain anymore weight either. This could easily throw me into a depressed state so I constantly have to check myself. Have already fractured my back once so stopping treatment wouldn't be wise for me. Glad to have found this forum to vent and know I am not going crazy as I have tried everything to get this extra poundage off.

I've been on forteo just about 6 weeks and have gain 10 lbs at least. Gone from loose 12 to 14 and can't buy bigger clothes. Regardless of what I eat and portion control I'm still gaining and can't lose any. Dr. Needs to tell us this before we start it. I have to take it in order to have back surgery.

Wow! I appreciate the responses on here. I have slacks that I can no longer button. Now I know why!

I've been on Forteo for 11 months now and have put on about 10 lbs. This is as much as I've ever weighed and I did weigh this much once before but never had so much fat end up around my mid-section. I, too, have wondered if it had something to do with the Forteo I'm injecting. My only other explanation for it is a loss of muscle over the past couple of years. I've had two broken foot bones during that period of time that didn't want to heal and that can really slow you down. Without as much muscle, I don't burn nearly the calories I used to. Since there isn't much I can do about needing to be on Forteo, the best I can do is to try not to take in more calories than I can burn and at the same time try to find some way of burning more calories (and avoid those empty ones!).

I'm almost finished 2 years of Forteo and find it next to impossible to lose weight and have the midsection fat that others have mentioned. I exercise and eat healthily and of course, I wonder if it's just my age and metabolism slowing down, but I also have to wonder if Forteo isn't at least partially responsible.
