Hello
You’re not alone. I took Forteo for 2.5 months and gained 18 lbs. Nothing changed in my diet or activity level. It’s all in my abdomen... I look like I’m pregnant. I’m certain beyond doubt that it is the Forteo. I stopped it because of weight gain and other side effects 6 weeks ago but my weight remains the same. Not happy to say the least.

I was on Forteo for 2.5 months. I gained 18 pounds in my midsection. I stopped it a month ago but today I look like I’m pregnant. I wish I had been told that weight gain was a side effect.

I also have gained 10 lbs over 2yrs. they want to say its diet and lack of excise. I don't think that's the reason. iam on forteo for almost 3yrs., and its the kind of fat that seems to be harder then regular stomach fat. I actually eat less then I usually eat. but they don't want to address that either.

I started the Forteo injections one month ago and I have disgusting belly and back fat that I have never experienced before. I have gained about 5 pounds and can not fit in any of my clothes. I am petite framed and only 5'2" so this weight gain shows very drastically in me. Right now I hate my body and summer is approaching

I started Forteo 4 weeks ago. I couldn't explain my weight gain in that time because my food intake and level of exercise are the same. Nothing else has changed. I started searching the web to see if anyone else had the same problem.

If it's in the anabolic category and it works on the thyroid, why can't a person gain weight? I wound up on Forteo after being given 10 times the dose of GnRHa's which mess with the thyroid, so I got another steroid? Great. Also, what does the doctor think about the long term side effects like bone carcinoma 2 and what is the percentage of BMD increase over a time period of 2 years. Not 6 mths. That's a big pharma thing. Good thing I learned about Bisphosphonates and bone remodeling along with spiral fractures. Is the BMD over 9%. It's important because the nuts and bolts in my back stay forever, right? So, where are the long term studies? I'll take PubMed NEJM, BMJ, Oxford Journals. Thanks!

I'm also 67 and was 115 lbs (5'6") when I started Forteo exactly 3 months ago. I don't own a scale because weight hasn't been an issue since the 'freshman 15' decades ago. I've notice more fat in my belly and behind. My pants are either skin tight or impossible to zip/button. I'm afraid I'll be tempted to stop the drug if I see how much weight I've put on, so I don't seek out scales. I keep hoping the weight gain will level off any day now. Hah!

Why are we not being taken seriously in regard to significant weight gain with Forteo. I'm particularly concerned about the concentration of fat in the stomach..like one lady mentioned the fat is harder than the other belly fat
Why are the doctors skirting around the issues blaming us by implying that we are not eating right or not exercising enough.
Weight should be added to the side affects

Yes, my weight just keeps going up! But I feel I have to stay on it because of bone loss! Don't know how big I will be at the end, but it just isn't fair!

32 lbs in 11 months, I'm happy, no more fractures and breaks... but I was always a size 2, or the most, size 5, all of my life. I was 102 lbs. before forteo. mow I'm 134. I am so unhappy with the way i look, it's effecting me emotionally and mentally.

Yes, I experienced weight gain too, in the mid-section especially: I was on Forteo for 11 months and couldn’t go any further because of nausea, acid reflux, headaches, and constipation during those 11 months. I am usually around 120 lbs and size 4-6 jeans - it was strange to gain in the midsection as I am trim and slim.

The reason I found your question is because I am searching to see what the heck is going on with my unbelievable middle weight gain. I was slight. Size 5 soaking wet, now a blob with a reduced diet (1200 calories per day) and gaining more and more fat daily. My hips and pelvic bone used to be protruding, my ribs showed through my t-shirts, now there is just gobs of rolling folded over fat, no definition of waist nor hips, thick thighs too! This is not ok! I'm 9 months in of the 2 years I'm supposed to be on it, and I can't keep going like this!
