Hello, I would like some help with atypical depression. My mother has been diagnosed with it and the mere word atypical worries me. Did anyone have experience with atypical depression? Is it dangerous? Can it be treated? What are her options? She did receive some meds, will those help? I can't help being so concerned...

First of all, you should calm down a bit. She has received a therapy and that means she should start to feel better soon. And the word atypical is nothing to worry about that much. I mean, almost 40% of all depressions are referred to as atypical. And it includes major symptoms like over-sleeping or over-eating, beside th depression signs. But the good thing is that the meds will surely help.
