I have one problem and I would like to hear if anyone had the same and maybe can help me. I had laparotomy last year and my dissolvable stiches came out through incision. I didn’t have idea I could have allergy to them, so I ended up pulling some of them out or cutting them off. My incision is still tender and red. How long should I wait before it heels, and could it be prolonged because of dissovable stiches?

I didn’t realize too how my body doesn’t like dissovable stiches until I had surgery few years ago. My body has some type of foreign body reaction called granulation and they hurt so badly. Since my surgery was on the neck, it was so difficult to swallow because of that swelling and pain. My brother had bowel obstruction surgery and he has also similar problems after it. His supposedly dissovable stiches actually started coming out though his skin. I know someone make think it is hogwash, but my surgeon told me I have to be careful getting dissovable stiches. That is because of the way my body reacts. I also spoke with my gynecologist and they said they have been used some dissovable stiches sewing my back up after laps. I guess this could be very well the source of some of the pain I experienced. I hope you are a little bit better now when you see it’s not something what happened only to you.
