I have been on Cymbalta for several years to treat neck pain. I had a fusion performed at C4-C5 and wanted to stop taking the Cymbalta after the surgery to see if it was still necessary to use it for pain reduction. When my doctor tried to ween me off the Cymbalta I had really bad shocks blasting my head and neck and had to get back on the med at 60mg once per day. Every once in a while I will forget to take my pill and those shocks start to come back and remind me that I missed my dose. I have no idea if the shocks are from the withdrawal or some kind of nerve damage that exists in my neck. My side effects are excessive sweating, tiredness, and somewhat reduced sexual drive.

I tried 30 mg of Cymbalta for the first time yesterday and will never try it again due to the horrible side effects. There is no way I could live a functional life on this drug. I'm a 30 year old graduate student who was prescribed this medication for serious pain combined with a little anxiety about my situation: I dislocated my lower back and hip in a sports accident and had multiple surgeries for my injury over a year ago, but I'm still in terrible pain and have trouble sitting for very long and even struggle when I walk around for very long. As a result, I'm extremely worried about finishing my PhD program with these limitations. I was hoping that Cymbalta would help solve my problems. No way. The first thing it did after I took it was make me feel like my whole body was slowing down. Then, I couldn't keep from falling asleep during the daytime when I had a major deadline coming up, which is strange because I don't ever take naps! After snoozing for 2 hours in my study chair, I woke up with slightly blurred vision and a lot of uncomfortable flatulence and gargling in my stomach. I knew I couldn't work, so I tried to read and watch TV. My family told me that I seemed like a Zombie. Admittedly my pain was reduced insofar as my whole body was a bit numb and all my older sports injuries in my foot and wrist didn't hurt at all, but I could still feel that my hip wasn't quite right (in the form of an irksome ache) and I had more trouble coordinating walking than usual; even walking down the stairs was scary because I was worried I might fall if I didn't concentrate really hard on each step. Finally, all night long, I had some of the worst diarrhea I've had in years and must have gone to the bathroom around 10 times. I'm writing this the morning after I took Cymbalta, and I still feel a bit queasy and "out of it," like I'm slightly hung over. There is no way taking it again today!

In short, this stuff reduced my pain from an objective standpoint, but the whole reason I want to get rid of my pain is to be a functional human being. Cymbalta made me feel like a numbed up zombie in addition to making me extremely ill. I know they tell you to stick with the medication because it doesn't work for at least a week, but why on earth would I want to force my body to get habituated to something that effects me like poison? It's not worth it. Rather than targeting my pain alone, it was like trying to kill a flea with a jackhammer. If it works for you that's great (obviously stick with it), but after my experience I would caution others who are prescribed this drug for pain. !

I've taken Cymbalta a few months and last month, the whole month, I walked around saying I had two ear aches. Then this past week I swore I had a week long migraine. Well, at this point it was the only med I was taking. I dropped down from 60mgs to 30mg and right off it. I hardly feel the headache today.

I've been taking 60mg of Cymbalta for 3 months. I am now on high blood pressure medication as well. I have gained weight. I have horrid sweats, just finished one, and have to strip down to a sun dress or nightgown or something. No sex drive. But the worse part of this is I was thinking of suicide. I have an ill husband and have to care for him, so I was thinking of having to kill him so I wouldn't hurt him by killing myself. I called my adults sons to make sure they didn't have any unfinished business with me and talked about suicide, but I really didn't want to talk to them about it anymore. I assured them it wouldn't happen for a long time because of the responsibilities I had to my pets and my husband. Honestly, I was beginning to plan how to do this. I was not a suicidal person, I do suffer from chronic pain that never ends, and wears me down. I have had issues with insomnia as well. I called my priest and started talking to him because my thinking wasn't 'me'. I called my doctor, and am currently ramping down. I'm on 30 mg instead of 60. This drug is not for me. I understand why it was prescribed, I can become overwhelmed in my life and depressed, but I have never been suicidal. I take other pain medications, so maybe this is a problem in combination with the other meds I am on. Cymbalta was the only drug I was taking for depression, anxiety attacks, and essentially feeling trapped in my body and my life. I am so glad I talked to my Priest!

My 67 year old grandmother has been taking Cymbalta and has been showing signs of manic behavior and paranoia. Suddenly she can't differentiate between past and present. For instance, she and my mom were at the grocery store and she asked my mom about my uncle (whom wasn't there). My mom walked away to grab some milk and when she return my grandma asked her what my uncle had said. She also can't sleep and feels pain however when she goes to the doctor they just prescribe more drugs or just change the dosage. She gets these fits of hyperactivity that seem very unnatural. I really think that her doctors care more about getting money for selling her more drugs like Cymblata that are the causing most of her symtoms, then her welfare. My mom finally entered the doctors office with her, and after mentioning these problems it was the first time the doctor had actually seen the list of prescription drugs she was on. She also continues to sweat constintly and has moments of sever depression which she didn't have before. And all this seems to center around the time she was told to start taking Cymbalta. Does anyone have any helpful advise?

For me so far only side effect is eyebrow hair loss, lost about 50% of the hair there in six weeks.  Loss of the ability, not the desire, to have sex.   The blue pill does fix this.  So far thats all I have noticed, taking 60mg daily.   Taking it for depression, anger, and chronic pain.   The first two are the results of the third.  Helping with those or I would drop it it fast.

Well, I am a 21 year old female who just got put on Cymbalta today, becuase the doctors suspect I have Fibro. Any way, I took that tonight about two hours ago and my stomach is so unhappy, I just want to vomit. I read through all the opinons on here about people who have taken this drug and it does not seem to be too popular, seems to have really bad opinons. I am honestly shocked, and scared.

My Father is over 50 years old now. He was taking Cymbalta for 3 months and very quickly started having allergic reactions Which eventually lead to him attempting Suicide..... In front of me, his 27 year old Daughter.

His symptoms started with a rapid "water weight" gain which esculated into Horrible skin rashes.... His skin seemed to be peeling off of him as if he'd had 3rd degree burns... From there he had a perfectly seimetrical square shaped rash of hard white bumps resembling acne on the base of his neck and top of his spine.... Slowly but surely he started to become allergic to EVERYTHING! Food, Dust, Pollon, Detergants, etc.

He tried telling his doctor and we'll put it nicely by saying she was rude and of no help. Eventually about Christmas 2011 He discontinued the medication on his own. Three weeks later Jan. 18th 2012 my mother told my father she was leaving him.... From the outside looking in I know with out a doubt in my mind she wouldn't have ever even thought of such Four months Prior, The following day Jan 19th 2012 my father shot himself with a 380 Pistol... He had to have his Spleene removed along with major surgery done to vital organs.... then was held in the Psychiatric ward for three weeks. He was recently released (2 days ago) and after getting all the Cymbalta out of his system seems better than I've ssen him in I don't know when..... He's lost the "water weight", He's sleeping again, His allergic reactions to any and everything out of the norm for him has ALL STOPPED!!

I am currently trying to get more information to SUE CYMBALTA!!!

I've been taking cymbalta for about a year now. The first month, i had servere stomake pains, which went away, and i got used to the drug, but now, after 1 year, i am beginning to experience rather painful heartburns. It appears right after taking the pills at night. I take 90 mg cymbalta every night before bedtime.

Cymbalta is horrible.  I started taking 60mg for a couple of weeks for chronic back and neck pain.  I found the side effects worse than the reason I was takinThg the medication.  Fatigue, severe dry mouth and extreme blurred vision, so bad I could not see anymore.  I also had uncontrollable yawning that was so bothersome and was causing contstant pain in my jaw muscles.  This medication was definitely preventing me from functioning in a normal capacity.  I have since stopped taking it 6 days ago.  I have now missed my period and have been feeling nauseated and light headed.  I'm assuming its all due to the meds.  Horrible!
