Does zovirax cream really work for lip cold sores?

Zovirax works really well, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why you need a prescription for this in Canada, but you do. Like you can abuse it?? Not. the very single biggest thing is to jump on the cold sore asap. by doing so, you can prevent a blister from ever forming. And don't spare the horses, put it on often and put lots on, the sooner the better and the more often the better. despite what it might say on the label, use it 20 times a day whenever you think about it for the first couple of days, and that will be that, you will beat it before it ever becomes a problem. Start it at the very first sign of trouble, when you get that tingle or itch or whatever, you usually get about 48 hours advance notice that it is coming before anything ever shows up, and if you jump on it right away, you can basically prevent it from coming to fruition.

Zovirax cream is for cold sores and the ointment is for genitals. However, you can use the ointment on lips, but it tastes horrendous if you happen to taste it and it is very oily.

Ok so, I buy Zovirax online in the UK for £4.99 that's about $8.30, sometimes in a hurry I have to get some in a pharmacist for around £6-7 around $11.60 and that is the most I have ever paid. The key to Zovirax is putting it on when you feel it start, they call it a tingle but that confused me to begin with because tingle sounds so 'Disney fairy'. To me it is more like a numb sensation slowly turning to pain, call it what you will, describe it how you want. The earlier you can get it after the numbness begins to turn to pain, the better it is. As have become such an expert at identifying this stage and because I always have a tube of Zovirax in my bag (in every bag I own, most of my jackets, my car, why not, it is cheap) I never get the sores, I have only had one cold sore in the last 15 years, I'll say that again I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE COLD SORE IN THE LAST 15 YEARS.... Zovirax, once I began to use it properly, changed my life. The one time I had a cold sore was when I was In the USA and I couldn't buy it in time because of restrictions. If you do not use Zovirax until after the sore has formed it will shorten the period you have it for but not by much by that stage you almost might as well not bother, it will always stop it growing any bigger however. The long and short of this is make friends with someone in the UK who can send you some or look to get it shipped from here from an online business how ever wonderful it is, it's not worth $400- $800 per tube. Something is seriously messed up with pharma costs in the USA, the only rational thing to do is look to the market elsewhere.

ink you can buy Zovirax on ebay. Some vendors ship internationally.

I also came across this problem before. When I lived in the U.S. as a student, and did not have insurance, I got a priscription for Zovirax from the school clinic, but when I went to the drugstore to buy it, the cost was $500 without insurance! Here in Europe, it is 20 Euros for the 10g, and 5 Euros for the 2g. In the UK is even cheaper and over the counter. What the drug companies are doing in the US is simply atrocious!

HSV-1 causes "cold sores" on the mouth, and up to 80% of the population has this virus.

It's better to buy from Canada. Every other country sells drugs cheap but the U.S. The government apparently does not want that to stop. I am going to order acyclovir ointment from Canada. It may take 3 wks. for delivery but ask them how long.

A cold sore started to appear since yesterday evening on my upper lip, i went this morning to the pharmacy which is a 2min walk from my house, bought a 2g Aciclovir cream for £2.99, and applied it on my lips. According to the pharmacist it should be gone in the next 2-5 days. That's how simple and cheap it is to get a cold sore cream without prescription or doctor in the UK! And if I was living in the US, I would rather order online than go to my doctor nooo wayyy

Drugs work differently on each of us. Some people can get the full benefit of a drug while others can actually have an adverse reaction (see biologic drugs such as Remicade or Humira, for example. Talk about a 'miracle to nightmare' range of effects on the human body!). So, it is somewhat presumptuous of you to suggest that people are exaggerating. When I first started taking Acyclovir pills, it completely stopped the cold sores before they broke through. Over time they were not quite as effective, but still 70-90% better than if I don't take the medication. I would recommend to people who can't afford the cream/ointment to at least try the pills. And, as most of the others have said, take them as soon as you feel the tingle.

Zovirax Cream is "for cold sores only". Cold solds/Fever blisters are HSV Type I (Herpes Simplex Virus Type I) Gential herpes is HSV Type II. Then there also 6 other variations of the Herpes Human Virus (HHV). One, for example, is VZV, Varicella Zoster Virus. Otherwise known as chickenpox and shingles. Anyone who has had chickenpox has a type of the herpes virus living in them. But it is only one type. Having chickenpox does not mean you now have cold sores. Same as having cold sores, herpes I, does not mean you have genital herpes, type II. The virus are in the same class, yet are unique. Therefore, make SURE you know what you actually have. A blood test can tell you. It IS possible that a cold sore type, type I, can be transfered to the genitals during oral. And sadly, type II on the genitals, can be transfered to the face. So be proactive in knowing what type you have and how to treat and care for it.

I also wanted to add for people that get year round cole sores, or very predictable cold sores, that taking the pill Lysine (500mg twice daily or 1000 once daily) will significantly cut the number of outbreaks down per year. Some people actually go years without a single outbreak while on this supplement daily.
