I'm a 63 year old male who hasn't had an erection for 8 years, which is also the
last time I had sex. I've had all kinds of medical tests to see why I can't get an erection, but they have all come out normal. I read in "The Penis Book"
that if you don't get an erection collagen will form in your penis so you can't get erect. I've also read that if your testosterne(sp)level is low, you can't
get an erection either. I don't know if I've been tested for a low level of this or not. If I have collagen in my penis, can it be removed? My penis will get
somewhat long, and kind of hard, but far short of a full erection. Can you help me with this?
Thank you.

I read about what you said you wrote about collagen and to be honest I am confused because I have been reading that collagen is actually being injected into penis to make it bigger and wider. I am not sure anybody would want that or do that if its build up would cause erectile dysfunction.

There was a period in my husbands life when he had problems getting it up. We were quite young then and I thought it was me, not attractive to him anymore and stuff although he kept saying that I wasn’t.

His urologist said that there were many, many possible causes and then we did some reading about it. In the end, nothing was found to be the matter with him, his erections slowly improved and the doc concluded it was psychological although he didn’t have any issues (that I knew of) at the time.

Anyway, from what we’ve been reading, there are a lot of possible reasons. For example, if you have been a heavy smoker for years, your blood circulation may be poor, which means you may be experiencing problems with blood reaching and staying in the penis i.e erectile problems.

Then people who suffer from diabetes could have erectile problems as this disease affects blood vessels as well as some nerves in the body.

It is said that checking out if there were night erections could determine if the problem’s physical or psychological. I suppose it is physical in your case since it’s been 8 years now.

Have you ever suffered a spine injury? There are many nerves leaving the spine, so affecting some may trigger problems like yours.

I reckon that you should talk to your doctor about what he had suspected and what tests he did according to his suspicion and see if there is anything else he may do.

Does age have anything to do with it?
