I am SO scattered lately, I blame part of that awareness on the fact that I have a 40 minute commute to work each way in which to think about things to torment myself with and this was today's hot topic. There are so many things I want to accomplish, research to do, articles to write, projects to head, along with all the fun stuff, and then there's the things I gotta do like clean, grocery shop, garden upkeep, bill paying (and let's not EVEN bring BOYS into this mix ) that I find myself completely overwhelmed lately with all this stuff on my list and no focus in which to actually get any of it done.
Anyone else? Witness? What'd you do about it? What are you doing about it?

get it back is to just let your mind wander (either looking at TV, or reading, or just walking).
I find doing yoga, or meditation in problem solving won't work for me because I'm looking for the answer instead of just letting it come to me.
So I'll doing other things, and before long a solution presents itself.

Make lists of what needs to be done. Break it into smaller lists, like what needs to be accomplished first. Set goals for yourself, or deadlines.
Once you get it on paper it helps a lot because then you have things associated with each other and not just flying around your head at 2.99 x 108 m/s.

OL has been teaching me well. :Pheh heh It's all part of the evil plot... :P And what SC said. In my experience, once I write it down, it doesn't look as bad as it felt and the path to organization becomes clear(er?).

that's my husband's answer too - make lists and sublists and sub sublists and prioritize categories of the lists until you need a bleeeeepin' list of your lists and POOF i am back to square one. overwhelmed.
HE would get it done. i will continue to feel overwhelmed till it all goes away!!
yes, genie, even tho' i'm not a 9 to 5er, i get that same feeling and most especially since i turned 40. sorry. it's Roll-a-Dex brain and i'm wondering if there isn't a hormonal connection :eek2:

It helps to see things organized in little lists or groups and when you can break a task down into multiple steps it is not as daunting. Also, checking things off of your list as you get them done helps you feel like you are getting things done (and of course, you are.).

I've haven't been running as much as I would like to due to injuries and ailments of other sorts and have found myself a little frustrated here and there. I've come to the conclusion that if I want to obtain my goals, I need to look after other areas first....and take it easy. Boston will always be there.

You're right, torque, and that's kinda where I was heading, not just the day to day things.....trust me, I make lists upon lists of lists of lists, I think I spend so much time making lists that I get tired just looking at all of them. But I was also thinking of the long term stuff I want to do, like an internet site I wanted to start for people with chronic illness, and an article I wanted to write expanding on a paper I just wrote for school, and the novel I started writing a year ago and haven't made the time to sit down and even work on (I actually just found the disk I saved the first chapter to a couple days ago).
The list thing works, to a point, but I'm really obsessive so then I start getting too organized with the list itself and that takes so much time it's scary. I think we creative types with too much potential and not enough time seem to be especially vulnerable to this quasi-ADD form of "I wanna do this...no this...no wait how about this....." Sigh.

I do call home and leave myself to-do messages on my home phone.....and of course any appointments I can schedule or stuff like that I can call from the car, but....
