Hello, my friends. My kid has been diagnosed with exotropia. I would like to know if this condition is fixable with patches only. I have heard about surgery option, but I know that it can bring some risks. I hope someone could answer to my post. Thank you for helping me. Bye, folks!

Hello. Exotropia is a form of strabismus. If there is a worse vision on one eye, we call it amblyopia. Surgical procedure is not recommended until vision on both eyes is maximized. Then, an ophthalmologist prescribe patch. A kid wears it on his stronger eye. In that way, he will force his weak eye. Surgical procedure is also not recommended if exotropia lasts for less than 50% of the day. All these are things you should discuss with your kid’s ophthalmologist. I hope I’ve helped a little.
