Agreed! You are also in my prayers. Looking forward to hearing good reports on your progress post-procedure, and anything that my help educate me as I prepare for my procedure (May 4th) and post-procedure recovery.

I had this procedure done in Oct 2015 and had to have a catheter for 10 days due to a tear in the urethra during the surgery. Once removed then all seemed to be going good until the third month when the voiding became very slow. I went in to see the Doctor and the prognosis was a stricture at the neck of the bladder. A second surgery in Jan 2016 took care of that, however the voiding is slowed down from when the stricture was removed but I am still able to void within 40 seconds from starting. Still watching it and hoping things continue to improve!

To all who have been following my anticipation for the surgery by Dr.Lingeman, I was done yesterday.  The problem now is I am having difficulty peeing - still some heavy duty clots which I presume are hindering the process.  We shall see.  Have not been dismissed from hospital yet as I have yet to empty my bladder 3 times.  Will keep you posted, but as for the surgery, Dr. Lingeman is wonderful, caring and knowledgable.

It'll be 2 years next month since my operation by Dr Jessica Mandeville of Lahey Clinic (Burlington, Massachusetts) and I go for my periodic check up shortly. I have no reason to believe I have any issues but I'll soon know.

In that time I have had no bad episodes of incontinence, nor bladder retention. My sex life is full and rewarding, able to make love daily, when time permits multiple times, and no issues with retrograde ejaculation (produce less but at 57 years old I'm not wanting more children). This process has worked out very well for me so far, hopefully it will continue thus.

Getting ready to be dismissed from hospital. Irrigated my bladder yesterday to flush out the clots. The young man doing it was marvelous. All said some of the biggest, if not the biggest clots seen. I am feeling much better and eager to get home. Dr. Lingeman and staff are marvelous caring people. Thanks for the prayers.

Dr Lingeman and His staff, and EVERY person I dealt with were just as you said, Marvelous caring people. I am so glad you found them to be so. Good to hear you are on the road to recovery . As strange as it may seem I still thank God for Dr Lingeman every time I pee! I had Acute retention Issues Starting in January until October. 2 trips to the ER. Self cathing from July to the end of October. 70 time it was necessary to cath myself between July and end of October because I could not urinate. It is a terrible feeling when You CAN`t go. I don`t know if you have experienced the dramatic difference holep makes yet, I actually cried for Joy The first time I urinated after Holep. The main reason I stay with this group, is to encourage others that are in the situation I once was . It is a small price to pay for such a gift to have received from God and Dr Lingeman. Keep us posted. Just me

Just a follow-up to my previous post. It is now 9 days post surgery and I am doing so well. Most of those pads I purchased probably will not be used. I am still cautious, however, and wear them just in case. I have no pain or burning when urinating. I get up once in the night, usually near morning. What a difference from before surgery! Bleeding and clots are gone. I am told by hospital staff that if some bleeding or "pink lemonade" returns for a short period of time it could be considered normal as healing is still going on. I keep thinking this is too good to be true, but so far it is not! I think that perhaps because I had so many clots in the hospital - needed to be irrigated for almost one hour - that is why the healing is going so smoothly.

I am so incredibly thankful to all who had me in their prayers and thoughts. Also, Dr. Lingeman and his staff are wonderful and make you feel as if you were their only patient.

Hi Steve,
Been going to Jefferson for about 10 years with high PSA's in the 4+ area. Always discussing biopsy's with my urologist and refusing. I'm 70. Now seeing Dr, Das thinking Holep is the way to go. I have a 160gr. prostate. My regular Jeff Urologist thinks I should have a biopsy first. I'm thinking the Holep will kill 2 birds with one stone. Free my prostate and give them tissue to biopsy. Do you know Dr. Das's feelings about biopsy's? I see him this Friday March 25th for my pre-op cystoscopy. My regular Urologist and Dr. Das will be talking about my situation the folowing week.

Thanks,

Bob from South Jersey

With an enlarged prostate, psa will be higher than 4. Mine was 15 before HOLEP. I chose not to do the biopsy. I was warned that if they find cancer after the HOLEP it may be more difficult to remove the rest of the prostate since only a shell of the prostate remains. Then they would probably recommend radiation seed for that. But the digital test indicated a smooth prostate (no cancer). I took my chances and the pathology was negative after HOLEP (no cancer). My psa went down to 0.8. I would find out what they are saying about your digital (finger) test before making a decision on whether to do a biopsy.

Thanks, so much. My feelings exactly. They gave me an OPKO Labs blood test to assess the potential for a positive prostate cancer biopsy result and it came back at 14% out of a hundred. They took blood after 2 DRE's within one hour. All negative for nodules. I think I'm going to take your path. The odds are on my side.
