Hi Steve,

Been having trouble registering on the site but I think i'm on and I hope this gets to you. I'm scheduled for Holep with Dr. Das on April 25th and I was wondering about your recovery experience. I might be starting a new job a week later(not a strenuous job-sales). I might have to fly out to San Francisco for training. Would this be possible a week after surgery? Also is driving out of the question. Love to have your thoughts or others thoughts on the subject. Bob from South Jersey.

A week sounds a bit soon. We all have different experiences with recovery. Some have few problems with post op leakage and pain while urinating. I had pretty painful urination for the first month, but only had leakage for a few days. I'd try to get at least 2 weeks before you have to fly out and start working. At least you'll have more time to get used to whatever condition you are in. I was kinda hurtin' for the first 10 weeks then I was suddenly fixed with no pain at all. Good luck.

Cool!! Thanks for the input. I was thinking about trying to wait two weeks and if not was going to pick a seat right next to the bathroom. Philly to Frisco is a long flight.

Hint: At the beginning of recovery, plan to sit for peeing. It shoots out so hard at first that it goes everywhere. But it's a real thrill using the firehose.

Scheduled for HoLEP with Dr. Lingeman on 5/4/16.  What kind of (if any) restrictions are there on driving after release from the hospital?  My spouse will need to return to Texas on 5/6 (assuming I am released on 5/5), and I will be staying in Indiana through 5/9 with family (about 60 minutes from Indianapolis).  Is it reasonable to expect to be able to drive that distance after dropping her off at the airport?

Although I had a little trouble walking to the hospital door, I had no trouble at all driving 2 hours home (from Albany, NY)

I had my surgery with Dr. LIngeman on Dec. 12, 2014, stayed overnight on the 13th at the hotel just in case something needed attention and road back on the 14th to Detroit [298 miles]. My brother drove the 298 miles, but, I'm sure I could have easily driven the whole distance myself if I was alone. I was in no discomfort and was amazed at how good I felt. I had to go back in May as urinating turned into a dribble and my local urologist said I had a vesicle neck contracture. Dr. Lingeman fixed it in 10-15 minutes by opening things up while I was under anesthesia and I stayed overnight at the hotel and drove back to Detroit the first thing in the morning. No problem with the drive whatsoever. Jack.

Scheduled on April 25th for surgery with Dr. Das in Philly. Only concern is the burning during urination. Is there anything that can be done to relieve that? Hated that when I was a kid. Also hated it for the 2 days following my Urodynamics test. Cystoscopy with Dr. Das was a breeze. Any input would be most welcome.

I did not experience the burning right away. It developed later. I was given Pyridium to help with discomfort while I had a catheter. It did help for that. I asked Dr Lingeman If I could have some after the surgery and was given a script. It will stain your urine bright orange. You might ask about it. Just me

I had the burning for a few weeks but then again I had burning from the cysto. Since you didn't get it from your cysto, I would think you have a good chance of having none or less pain than I did. A friend of mine had his done a few months after mine and he had no burn at all. Good luck.

Thanks to both of you. I feel much better about the burning now. I know everyone recovers differently. Seems that burning and some incontinence are the most annoying factors. I'll let evryone know how it goes.

Today is my day with Dr. Das and Holep. Hopefully it goes as well for me as it went for Don & Steve. I can't say I'm not anxious and look forward to getting this over with. I'll try to give updates while at the hospital. Best to everyone. Bob from SJ.

Well, had my surgery on Monday at 5:00PM. Spent one night in the hospital at Jefferson. That whole night was spent irrigating and removing any potential clots. I went home Tuesday afternoon. My prostate was 166 grams and Dr. Das removed 116, leaving me with 50.There was never one bit of pain from the surgery. The only aggravation I experienced was having to where the Foley catheter. It was a pain and annoying. Because of the extent of my surgery Dr. Das wanted me to leave it in until Friday(today) for healing purposes and away from the hospital where all the germs are. Catheter was removed this morning after first filling my bladder with saline solution. I peed some blood then the clear saline solution and totally voided. There was some irritation but I wouldn't call it pain. I'm home now and feel like a normal human being. Urinated again at home without incident. Cannot believe I feel as well as I do. Hopefully I will have no setbacks. as far as I'm concerned Dr, Das is a miracle worker. It amazes me that he's the only doc in over 125 mi radius that can even perform this operation. Than God I go to Jefferson Hospital for my Urology service. Thank you all for your support and advice. I couldn't have gotten through this without your support. Thanks, Bob from South Jersey.
