A few months ago I had a sudden onset of swollen hands, fingers and forearms. I was later told that it was viral (weird). That wasn't the scary part. The REALLY scary part was the pain.  So extreme, I actually threw up.   Felt like my hands and arms had been flayed.  For days. Problem is, when they gave my Oxycontin, and later Dilaudid, neither had any effect on the pain, or me, for that matter.  I felt nothing.  Completely the same.  I ended up taking 6 Dilaudids (stupid) in desperation in the middle of the night before going to the ER (again) and finally getting a morphine shot.  Which made me feel great, but the pain was still there.   I just didn't care about it.

I already knew that codeine had no effect on me from previous sinus surgeries.  But...to feel NOTHING, let alone pain relief from these supposedly powerful synthetic opiates?  And after taking a fair bit of each as well. How is this possible and what's stronger if this happens again?  My doctor couldn't be less concerned nor the pharmacist. 

God help me if anything ever happens again, or anything worse.
