I just thought I would add to this...
I am a 23 yr old woman w known diagnosis of multiple sclerosis but as of very recent, a lot of other very scary symptoms in my bones, muscles, and circulatory system have become more noticable and the docs are looking to other rheumatological conditions which could very well include vasculitis of somekind, but nothing is really being found yet.
This fluttering sensation has been pure madness for a few months now, probably stemming from a recent episode of costocondritis that means my whole ribcage and upper body was so inflamed I couldn't take a deep full breath for 3 weeks...
and for me that flutter it's associated with extreme weakness and spiking hypertension / burning muscles. I've said to my docs it "It feels like a rainstick sounds" Palpitations are constant and my resting readings are pretty much boarderline tachychardia but still fall within normal... pretty much. my heart just feels like it's having to work way too hard with very little exertion (shifting around in my chair, for instance)
I have a family history of autoimmune disorders and heart disease... I'm going to guess you all should very well take good care of yourselves and don't dismiss this sensation. Get the doctors to listen and if they don't, go find other doctors. I'm willing to bet that for me it's got something to do with abnormal autoimmune attack, but it's probably got to do specifically with the construction of the actual walls of the artery in the chest there, as in cartilage tissues and blood vessel membranes.
I swear I am not a doctor.... heh. if I get any updates I will let you know.

I just thought I'd jump in on this too - I'm having what everybody here is describing ... fluttering in my chest over my left breast. Fluttering is a great way of putting it.... I've had this going on for the last year and always described it as "It feels like my chest is getting lighter and lighter and almost feels like it wants to fly away...." Fluttering.... much better. Anyway. I'm having one of those attacks right now.... too bad nobody knows what it really is....... I got myself hooked up to a machine last year and they said my heart was fine -
Just to help anybody here line themselves up - I'm male, 30, 6'3 and and weigh 190. I do about 3 hours of cardio a week), Work at a desk (on computers) all day. Lots of vitamens (Multi, Flax Seed, Folic Acid, Apple Cider, D, and Selenium. Eat semi healthy (lots of spinach) and semi unhealthy (lots of microwave dinners). Did a bunch of drugs when I was young, stay away from them now. I drink about once a month (if that).
While writing this ramble the pain has subsided... (it's not really pain though.... it just kinda tingles and then makes me worried)....... I guess I'm not alone... too bad there aren't any answers on it.

There was another great post on here that hasn't answered what might be wrong with me, but after some reading and research I'm going to try and cut caffeine out of my diet, introduce some B-Complex and some Q10 into my daily vitamin habits. I also have some blood work getting done this week (after I turned 30 I figured it was about time to get the typical physical). Seems to be a lot of talk in here about the thyroid so I'll see if I can get that checked out too. I'll post back once to tell you how cutting coffee out and adding some B-Complex to my diet helps...... hooo boy... no more coffee.... 30 is way to young to be cutting that out...... oh well....

I'm a 35 yr old female. I've been having a vibrating feeling in my chest area for 4 months now. EKG, holter monitor, echocardiogram tests are all normal. I think it may be caused by my nervous system. Maybe the vagus nerve? I do feel my heart pounding also. And have had heart arrythmias (skipped, or extra beats) at times. Tachycadia. Also experienced numbness and tingling in my right leg, lightheaded, feels like I'm not getting enough oxygen at times. My blood test did show very low vitamin D level. It's a mystery. I haven't seen a neurologist but I would like to get an MRI of my brain. The vibrating keeps me up at night along with the pounding heart beat. There is also something called Dysautonomia. It's a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. Seem I have alot of these symptoms.

Hello, I am a 60 yr. female. I have had a cardiac arrythmia since I was approx. 18 yr. old. The symptoms feel like the fluttering sensation that the writer's have described. I also, from time to time, feel a "thump" sensation after a feeling of "no activity in my heart."
The doctor has told be that I have PVC's and PAC's and altogether he calls it a "benign (meaning harmless) arrythmia." No...it certainly does not feel harmless when it is occurring. Hey - it's my heart! It is scary even after having been fully tested and told it will not kill me.
Through the years, I have learned to lay off caffeine, and really important but HARD to do - keep the stress out of my life. Also, I take a beta blocker each morning - a medicine that "smooths out the rhythm of the heart," as explained to me by my doctor. It is used to lower blood pressure as well. I also take klonopin (the generic) for stress. I have been on this medication regime for over 20 years and it is effective most of the time. I have "break through" symptoms occasionally and I try to get in a place to sit down...relax...have a drink of water and not feel pressured to talk for a while. The doctor has also informed me that one of the most common times to experience these symptoms is when one is in a reclining position, i.e. at the end of the day. If I begin to feel the symptoms, I either sit up straight or lay on my right side...and I almost always lay on my right side while sleeping.
I understand the fear and disruptions in life due to this problem. I suggest that you get the cardiac tests done and then use wisdom to live a normal life!

I am a 58 year old female; I have had the buzzing sensation in my chest area for 2 months. When this happens, I get very weak and feel dizzy.
I also have zaps and zings running throughout my body periodically....it feels like I am being "electrocuted" from the inside out! I am usually lying down when it happens (sometimes it wakes me up). I was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in 1975 that went into remission! I am not over weight (actually, I have lost weight recently) Six months ago, I had the flu with high fever and Pneumonia complications/partial paralysis in both legs resulting in permanent numbness in bottoms of both feet. After numerous blood tests, MRI, EEG, EKG etc, the Neurologist diagnosed severe Neuropathy in both legs, feet and arms. The blood test came back with possible Lyme disease (Barrelli infection)! I had a second test (Western Blot) with the same results! I am now scheduled for a Spinal Tap and a team of Neurologists! Hopefully, this test will eliminate Lyme disease because it is very hard & expensive to treat. The test also showed low B-12 so the Neurologist prescribed injections every week for one month then once a month for life! This has been a nightmare for me....not knowing what is going on in my body!
It has been a comfort knowing I'm not alone with these wierd symptoms! Thanks for posting...my heart goes out to all of you!

Same here...fluttering/vibrating sensation in the left chest. I went to the doctor a couple months back to get it looked at. He had me set up with the 24hour monitor. Saw nothing wrong...heart was perfect. However, he did tell me to give up caffeine...and cut back on alcohol. So I gave up coffee for a month and found it went away. But I love coffee and eventually went back to it...and this morning it's back. So I'm really starting to think it's caffeine. I'm now off it as of this morning, and I'll keep you posted if it goes away again. If you drink coffee...give it up and see what happens.

I have had the same experience the last 3 days. I have had my pace maker checked and it is all right. I had a chest xray yesterday and am awaiting the results. It started on the left side behind the breast on Sunday. On Monday it started on the right side almost under the breast. It is getting more frequent now. It only lasts a few seconds and feels like a cell phone on vibrate. Yes I am overweight and No I am not imagining it. Even though it is so slight that I wonder what in the world was that? I do have diareah today so maybe it has something to do with a virus. Keep the comments coming because the Drs. are baffled.

I have been having a 'fluttering' feeling in my just left from center of chest (assuming it's in or around my heart) for about the last 6 weeks. I am 42, female, and overweight (abt 75 lbs). I also work at a computer for too many hours a week! But it wasn't until I changed my diet for the better - began cooking with fresh vegetables, cutting out salt, sugar and fat in my foods, and not just on the nutritional panel of food, but in the ingredients. I made a pretty drastic change in my diet. And added drinking at least 100oz of water each day. I dropped 20 lbs in 6wks and feel great, except for an almost daily flutter like I described. it last for only a few seconds and has been rarely more than once or twice a day, except for on two different occasions. Along with my new healthy eating, I cut all caffeine, but when meeting with a friend, she bought me an cappuccino and I drank it - I had the 'flutters' several times consecutively for the next 24 hours (which struck me as extremely bizarre, since prior to my new healthy way I was a frequent coffee and even espresso drinker) but it had been about 3 week not having any. Then, the other increase flutters was just after Christmas. My son got me one of those heat/vibrating/massage pads that you can lay on for relaxation. Well, I enjoyed it in short intervals for a couple of days and on about the third day, I fell asleep on it overnight. I was awaken by big time 'fluttering' and had several more for the rest of the day... so my conclusion is (I do need to get it checked out if it continues) but I decided it must be high EMF due to laying on the electrical massage pad AND caffeine... so no more caffeine and I have been paying closer attention to the computer box at my leg when I am at my computer and turning off all my electronics, instead of leaving them on. And the 'flutters' have reduced greatly, since. I have only had one or two very minor ones in the last several days (10 or so). I also wondered if maybe the 'fluttering' was (hopefully) fat, that possibly had accumulated around my heart going away... causing some kind of unusual movement. Good luck all, hope things improve. If I learn anything new I will post as well.

To all the people complaining of vibration sensations in the chest - this is a response to your central nervous system. I say this with a lot of certainty - this is my recommendation.....google dr. burrascanno treatment guidelines. It will take you to the medical society that believes there is a diagnostic problem with lyme disease and when goes undiagnosed it affects the central nervous system, which causes very odd symptoms such as the vibration sensation, itchy skin, anxiety, dizziness, muscle twitching, fatigue and many many others also due to weakened adrenal glands from your immune system fighting a chronic infection. Unfortunately, two different medical societies cannot agree on this issue meanwhile many, many people are suffering. Please look into this and do your own research and then find a LLMD (lyme literate medical doctor).

Sounds like some of these might be WPW. It's an electrical problem in the heart between the AV and Sinus nodes. I had my extra nerves removed in 2001 at Stanford Medical Center. It is starting to feel like one nerve might be connecting again since I am getting flutters again in the lower portion of my heart. Hope this helps. Search WPW for more info.
