I know that this is probably way over due but its definitely the medication. I took Focalin XR for 2 years then finally lost it and had to get switched because the focus wasn't worth how depressed I got on it.

So true. However, my son who plays tennis, swims at least three times a week, goes to sleep with a smile on his face because we pet his back till he falls asleep, finds difficult to lead a regular life because of the ADD. We tried EVERYTHING that exists including Homeopathy. We changed his diet with low carb and low sugar. Nothing works for him. He is miserable because beeing a 11 years old and not being able to read or write or do simple Math, just sucks the life out of him. I wish I knew what to do.
Don't judge a parent till you are one.

Don't take what that not very smart person said to Hart. I didn't take medication and did horrible in school. My 2 kids didn't take meds and once I put them on meds it's been a complete turn around. They also play sports that they like and no that alone doesn't help. There's nothing wrong with giving kids meds. Especially if you have sought out other alternatives.

My grand daughter who is 10 years old has been on stimuliants for ADHD before she had hallucinations, always complained her stomach hurting her, loss of appetite, headaches, always irritable and aggressive. Two years ago she was taken off put on Intunvia a nonstimuliant was having hallucinations. Was taken off Intunvia due to hallucinations. She hasn't been on medication for about 4 months. Her neurologist wanted her too a psychiatrist so I took her. The psychiatrist wanted to put her on Focalin XR but the Phmarcy didn't have it in stock. I called told the psychiatrist office I was not going from phmarcy to pharmcy trying to find this medication so he changed to concerta. I personally don't want her on medication. She has been a lot of improvement since being off medication.

I am 51, diagnosed this year with ADD (in Switzerland). I took Ritalin 4x30 mg now Focalin 5x15 per day for the past 7 days. I have no problems with appetite, headache or thirst, but have noticed burning, painful feet when I awake each am, also, I talk more (too much?) and feel a bit anxious, though that could be due to issues in Psychotherapy. In your opinion, as I had none of these problems with Ritalin, should I switch back? Will these symptoms go away with time?

My son takes the 15mg in the AM, and then takes 5mg towards the end of the cycle of the 15 mg to overcome the depression. He happens to be 12 years old, but this has helped tremendously.

Don't give your kids drugs then. Unless they're straight out flunking then don't do that to them. Let them become their own person like I did. Boy did I disrupt the class from grade 2 all the way to grade 8...my desk was in the hall half the time haha, but now I own multiple properties and have a great life....without drugs, only drugs I do is recreational a few times a year.

Parents too quick to medicate these days. I'm 32 yrs old btw

I realize this is late, but kids who are ADHD are actually great at baseball apparently. There are a ton of pros who are adhd and that's because they do well on the field even though there is so much going on.

Well said. I went through life without medication. Now at 58 I am on meds... lifechanging.. I wish I had started much much earlier - I would be much more successful.

I've always been against medicine for children but my daughter has ADHD I tried everything keeping her active, talking and explain stuff to her but she was going to be kicked out of school because her behavior is all over the place. So its not based on her being stuck in the house or not getting enough sleep.People operate differently.

Schools don't tolerate the behavior that sent kids to the hall with their desks when we were that age. Today, kid who are disruptive are suspended or expelled. I am super reluctant to medicate my son, but he couldn't go to school otherwise.
